Geez, didn't even hear about this release. I'd be interested to hear how it compares to past years as well?
Yah they were sold out when I got there on my way back from Bissell Bros, Foundation and Banded Horn. Oh well can't win them all.
Bottles departed rapidly, but it's still there on tap.... has been 2+ weeks so far, and going.... Damn tasty!! Prosit!!!
There is another that will make much bigger news soon... But this years IMPY is better then last year. Reminds me more of 2013 when they released it the first time. Still a VERY good Imperial Stout. I went for a run at 10 and remembered it was on sale when I ran by and stopped in. No lines and wasnt flying out the door. Went back an hour later after my run and had no trouble getting a few bottles. It sold out a few hours later.
Portsmouth Brewery tapped 2012 Kate the Great at 3pm today.....lasted 3.5 hours. I was lucky enough to get there 20 minutes before it kicked. Tried it side by side with the new impy stout. New impy has lots of coffee and licorice. Really nice beer. Bummed I missed out on the bottle release.
Kate came and Kate went quick. She was delicious. Certainly a bit different after having a few years in the tank but very very good. That shit kicked quick, it was also nice to just sit and have some with mostly locals and not have to wait in some ridiculous cold ass line for hours before hoping you get one pour at a brew pub I can walk to. Good stuff PB!
Good scene at the brewery last night. Thought about grabbing an Impy to do a little comparison with Kate. . . but decided to just drink more Kate. Three glasses was about my limit. No regrets.
Both Kate releases were great, 2012 held up way better than 2010 obviously. Had three 2012's and one 2010 (it was 11:30 AM). As Jbrews said it was nice to be around a lot of locals in our seacoast beer scene. KTG has helped lay the foundation for the community we all love. That being said.. Matt's Royal Impy is an excellent RIS, side by side the biggest difference was the hop character which will surely fade as the beer is still young. Looking forward to Tod's.
