+1 to everything said in this thread. Welcome to Michigan, the great beer state! There are over 120 breweries in Michigan now, several of them within a short distance from Royal Oak. You should try as many as you can and explore as much of this great state as s you have the opportunity. Best Beer Bars are One Eyed Betty's in Ferndale and Clubhouse BFD in Rochester. Best brewery is Kuhnhenns. Get out to the west side of the state when you can and hit Dark Horse, Arcadia, Bells, New Holland, and Founders. That would be the big hitters for the southern MI circle tour.

If you are looking for the best dining in Royal Oak (date night), Cafe Muse is where it is at! Amazing food, and an awesome beer list (Michigan, American Craft, AND an extremely respectable list of Belgium's).

Also, everyone has mentioned the best beer retailers (8deg, champagnes, merchants, and beer Barron), but in my opinion you have already seen the best....Holiday Market in Royal Oak. Really no need to go elsewhere.

    Enjoy Royal Oak!

Welcome! Royal Oak is a really nice community with a great downtown. Everyone has hit most of the spots already, a couple of other places slightly off the beaten path where I have had good luck with limited stuff in particular are Royal Liquor, GS Market (John the owner is a really cool guy), and ML Spirits in Birmingham. The latter is expensive compared to most, but I have found a lot of treats sitting on the shelf weeks after they sold out everywhere else.

Cafe Muse? I thought they just served pretentious, over-priced breakfast/brunch? I'll have to check that out.

They do, but it is good pretentious, over-priced breakfast/brunch.

I'll echo everything said above. Great place to live. I'm up the road in Birmingham and always looking for more good BAs. Feel free to drop me a line.
