Would a Deviation get this trade done?

I've spoken to a few people that have mentioned that Depuration is at least a couple of years past its peak, if that changes your desire for it at all. Drink the Deviation instead. My two cents...

Haha I still wanna tick it but yea I guessed its past its peak by quite a bit now. I have a Deviation I can drink though and I got another one. What else do you think would be good to trade 1:1?

Sorry, no idea. I've never tried to trade for one because of what I've heard about the taste. Also, my knowledge of beer trading value is also a year out of date. Best of luck...

Haha yea, same exact thing here about trade value. I don't have time to keep up with everything nowadays.

There is no way that those reviews aren't people just tasting rarity. I can't imagine it being much good but I still wanna try it. Personally, I only trust reviews from people know to be very pragmatic/objective.

I felt Depuration significantly declined between the first time I had it in summer 2010 and the second time in summer 2011. Both bottles I received were generous, unsolicited gifts, and I didn't even realize how rare it was the first time I had it. The bottle I shared with BeerTruth in 2010 was one of my all-time most delicious beers consumed, although it came at the end of a 10-hour drive so I may have thought anything was amazing at that point...

Thanks for the input and I don't know, are you the type of person that would think something is amazing because of the effort it took you to get it instead of just being bummed out that the effort was for a beer that wasn't that good?

Also that was 2010 and we're talking about a beer from 06 so there's a chance it was at its peak but considering how american sours age, at this point I'm inclined to think I'm just being a ticker by wanting to try this beer because chances are any other recent RR sour will taste better...way better.

judging from his reviews, my guess is that masterski didn't grade it high just because he was impressed that it was an obscure russian river beer.

    Hahaha.

    Dave: Here try this.
    Al: What is it?
Dave: You should review it. You'll hate it.

I personally enjoyed Depuration quite a bit. Yes, the majority of the tart and sour notes that were probably present were all but gone. However it was still great. The 6 people this was shared with all agreed with this as well. This included 4 more refined palates and 2 inexperienced palates. If that means I tasted the 'rarity' then so be it. *shoulder shrug*

Hmm not that long ago so who knows. I've heard recently its taken a nose dive but I obviously don't have any so I can't know myself nor did I try it earlier so I will never know

It's also almost a 2 year old review and a lot can change in that time.

Having had each of these twice in the last year, Depuration is mediocre, lifeless, easily worse than fresh Temptation. Deviation on the other hand is consistently glorious. Where is the people talking about it going downhill?

There's a couple, Masterski is in that group. Glad to see someone like you chime in though, that's what I thought, which is why I said this
"considering how american sours age, at this point I'm inclined to think I'm just being a ticker by wanting to try this beer because chances are any other recent RR sour will taste better...way better."
Good to see someone confirm my suspicions but I'm still the idiot that wants to try it.

I had Deviation on-tap less than a month ago. It was still pretty good, but I'd rather have Beatification (any batch except 001) or fresh Temptation. And kegs age slower than bottles...

I'm not saying any of these beers are going to be *bad* - in fact they still may be highly enjoyable depending on your palate and preferences. I'm merely stating that I, personally, have noticed pronounced decrease in flavor depth and potency in Depuration and Deviation since I first had them (in 2010 and 2009, respectively). Based on my other experiences with beers like Cable Car, Toronado 20th, the Veritas series, etc. I personally have little interest in chasing American sours made prior to mid-2009.

Based on my highly unscientific series of tasting notes and half-memories, my rule of thumb is that American sours tend to develop for 12-18 months, plateau for an additional 18-24 months, and then fade precipitously. Fruited sours will have a slightly earlier curve to them.

That being said, plenty of variability in bottles, storage conditions, etc. as well as a few notable exceptions (Beatification, Isabelle). Heck, I had a Supplication 002 recently that tasted better than a 003 (side-by-side), so who knows?

Yea, I agree and I think storage at this point wouldn't matter unless its been in a fridge since 06. I think it would be bad in the sense that I could walk 2 blocks right now and buy a few better tasting sours than depuration at this point. I just kinda wanna try it still.
