Hi Guys, I have a buddy in LA right now for a work conference, staying at the The Standard in West Hollywood. He's leaving in a couple of days, and offered to pick up some RR sours for me while he's there. Anyone know any stores near there that have any in stock? He has a car and is willing to drive. And I'm sorry for the duplicate thread--I know there are a thousand threads on this already, but it seems they are all outdated (I called a bunch of places I saw listed and all were out of RR sours). Thanks in advance for any assistance.
RR sours tend to arrive at various bottle shops around the same time and sell out quickly. I went through many of my saved Facebook pages maintained by these bottle shops, I haven't seen any RR sours advertised as being available in stock recently at any of them. You usually need to buy them on day of delivery. Most recent RR delivery to the LA area seem to have been Pliny and Damnation earlier in the week. There is one place that may have Supplication and Consecration, but it's a drive from West Hollywood and on the expensive side, $3-4 more per bottle than average. Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel. I haven't been there in a while, but I usually saw those two sours in the cooler.
Thursday afternoons are generally the best time to pick up the beers as they will sell out quickly. I feel that in my area (Long Beach) Thursday is the drop ship day. As for places to pick the beer up, look up the places search LA under stores and you will have a good list going. I like going to California Heights Market in Long Beach, but that is like 45min away from where your buddy is located. I can beer mail you some if you want to trade, let me know.
They sold me bottles to go before. You do need to order food however. I ordered sandwiches to go, and they would put the bottles I'd purchased in a bag. You might want to ask beforehand about their policy about take out bottles.
Verdugo Bar which is just south of Glendale might also have a few bottles of RR sours; they tend to always have the more limited releases and have a special license, which allows them to sell bottles to go. Like Stuffed Sandwich, they will also sell them at a higher price than bottle shops. I believe they also have some Almanac Farmer's Reserve if you're interested in CA AWA/sours in general.
Thanks a lot for the responses guys. Those places remind me of some Brooklyn shops-- Limited stuff is so marked up that it sticks around longer than other places. For example, a store near me selling KBS for $10 a bottle had it in stock for over a month.
Hey yeah he was. He checked a ton of stores so I'm not sure which ones he found them at, but he managed to score me 2 each of Supplication, Beautification, and Consecration. All are drinking great!
Do you have in your possession the "Beautification?" (I suspect that you mean Beatification). I only ask since I frequent dozens of stores in Southern California and I've only seen Damnation and Pliny available the past few weeks, with perhaps a few isolated stores having maybe a Supplication or Consecration from the last release. However, I for one have trouble believing that anyone found you Beatification. I have never seen a bottle for sale in a shop. It's a bit hard to believe, with all due respect. (Candidly, I find it hard to believe anyone still has any Supplication or Consecration, truth be known, unless perhaps I've missed a recent release). But, Beatification? I drink here in Southern California with hundreds of different people......I don't know one that has ever purchased a Beatification from a local store. Please, if you've done it....let me know. I don't need to know the store; I've just never heard of it being done. Have I missed out on Beatification on Southern California shelves?? Ever?? (Perhaps he traded for them??)
My fault, third one was a Temptation. These names are far too similar to remember clearly after a couple.
Ahh! That's more like it. And, although you have no reason to care one way or the other, I taste dozens and dozens of different bottles every month and have tasted more different beers than I'll even say. There are lots and lots of beers that I like; lots of very high quality and creative stuff from all over the world and regardless of price; there are some wonderful $2.00 bottles and some terrible $30 bottles. When all is said and done, and just speaking for myself... Temptation is my favorite beer. I really hope you enjoy it.
Thank you, I had it yesterday and it truly blew my mind. I'm relatively new to sours but this was definitely one of the enjoyable I've had. I'm lucky he was able to locate it. Overall, that and the Supplication were two of the most amazing beers I've had in a very long time. Consecration is great too but I felt the intense sourness blocked too much of the flavor for me.. Hopefully as my palate develops I'll be able to pick out more flavors in it.
You need to try Sanctification. Second only to Temptation in my opinion as far as the RR sours. (And, yes..I put Beatification 3rd, I'm sure that I'm in the minority on that). Anyway, beermail me and I'll send you a Sanctification from the last release. I've only got a couple left but you can have one of them.
Yeah, they really care about the beer scene too... They have good prices and don't one person take a whole case of this or that (Cascade, RR, or whatever). Good people.
