Just read my BA Magazine that arrived today and was motivated following reading the article on runners...

I've been running 30 to 40 miles a week for a quite a time and nothing beats the post-run, endorphin-bolstered first taste of a beer. I spent a few months in Germany a couple years ago and had a radler for the first time after a 20k and gosh darn damn did it taste good (and I'd never order that mix at a bar in a million years). After running 10 miles around here in the Finger Lakes, I usually go with an IPA or kolsch as my standbys.

What's your favorite post-run beer or style?!

The last few miles of my Sunday long runs pretty much consisted of me thinking about a Hennepin.

While I don't run, I lift. And I'm very hesitant to mix beer and my supplements. With that being said, I do like to increase my caloric intake on recovery days with a 450 calorie Real Ale Sisyphus.

Nothing beats a fresh IPA after a 10 mile run under the 90 degree sun. After you rehydrate of course

People drink beer after exercising? No way.

Shit, those are some long ass runs. When I go for a run, usually its about 2-3 miles, 3 times a week. You guys are nuts.

Since I do my runs in the morning and then go to work I usually don't get to have a beer until after work. But on the weekends I do love going for run, then to my favorite bar to enjoy a nice kolsh, pilsner, or pale ale. If I have one of these beers any other time It doesn't taste as complex as after a run.

Kinda like if I go on a few week stint without beer and then have a hoppy pale ale. It tastes way more complex to me than it would normally.

I usually don't drink after my daily runs in the morning ranging from 4-10 miles depending on the workout. However, on my weekly long run (13-18 miles) on Sunday I will have a Hefeweizen since I do that run in the afternoon.

I love drinking any beer after a run/biking/whatever.

Well, I quit smoking cigarettes a month ago and went on my first run today. Needless to say I felt like a piece of crap when I was done and wanted nothing to do with beer, but if I did, it would probably be an IPA.

Same. I spend about a lot of time on a bike and work about 20 to 30 hours per week on my property as a hobby. Sometimes it's pilsner, sometimes it's doppelbock after a good sweat. This summer it was homebrewed dunkel and saison, this falll it will be maibock and porter. It's all good, no rules or particular preferences.

Nothing is better than a Gumballhead post run for me. In fact, had it this afternoon!

Tonight it was a Maine/Lawson's Collaboration Time 1 after a brisk 5k. Usually the thoughts of the post exercise beer is what gets me through the run, bike, swim, tri...eyes on the prize baby

Congrats! It'll take some time but it's worth it. A month from now you'll be feeling great. Keep it up!

Great thread. I've run a half marathon that was sponsored by Sam Adams and had free Boston Lager drafts post run. That was one of the tastiest beers I swear

I have also ran races sponsored by Michelob Ultra. Double-fisted drain pour :slight_frown:

Depends on the time of year. After a long run/ride in the summer, the perfect beer for me is a MBC Peeper (or MO if it's in town). In the winter, something like a Founders RIS. Going to dreamland and assuming I lived in VT (rather than NYC), I would take a What Is Enlightenment - I've been thinking about that one a lot while running this summer.

Modern medical opinion seems to be that so called dehydration during after sport is a dangerous myth. You are just thirsty that's all and that's not dehydration.

The first sip of beer after the long walk to the fridge or a long session of Diablo III is always delicious. Unless it's Triple Bock.

I had a Wookey Jack after a three mile run the other day - that beer was awesome.

Usually an IPA like a Bell's Two-Hearted or Columbus IPA. Though I had a Short's Key Lime Pie (thanks Kzoobrew!) after a 20-miler last week...hit the spot like no other.
