I just finished up a lunch time run. I need to find a job where drinking is acceptable.

Two of my favorite things running and beer! Well I mostly run early in the morning but when I take an afternoon run I usually crave something refreshing and to me it's hard to beat Zombie Dust.

Wish I could run. Great, cheap exercise. But it's hell on my knees, shins and feet.

Trying to get into kayaking or cycling. The price of entry is a bit cost prohibitive though. Then again, I'm probably just being cheap -- I can easily spend a comparable amount on beer in a matter of weeks.

It says "drink from the can" at the top of the can

Hefeweizen, nice and refreshing. I particularly like Dry Docks.

Well its actually blasphemy to use a glass for that beer since it states, "DRINK FROM THE CAN!"

Any tips for the Camel's Hump hike? I'm going to Waterbury/Stowe for Labor Day weekend and plan on hiking that and Mansfield.

Love this thread as I'm a runner, currently training for my first Marathon in October. I don't have a particular post-run go-to, it depends what my game beer is for that particular saturday. But, what I do like to do is drink from my Liter sized Paulaner mug after long races, and I usually fill it with Paulaner marzen

I don't run but I do fight full contact Karate/Kickboxing and there is nothing better than a good beer or 2 after some sparring.

There is a runners group here in Philly who used to (maybe still does?) meet up and run around the city, stopping at a few different bars along the way. At this one particular bar at the end of their run they would toast this one Dr. who did research on the exercising/beer drinking benefits link. I need to check into this group to see if they are still around!

I am a runner as well and I do occasionally drink a beer after my workout and for me, nothing beats a refreshing Helles Lager or Pilsner! But truth be told, most any beer I happen to have on hand will do! ;-)

Not sure about availability (I know it isn't in Chicago) but a friend in NC sent me one of these a while back as part of a trade and mentioned the owners being runners themselves (and inspiring the design):

I run 4 miles a day five to six days a week, been doing this since my early twenties, which was a long time ago. I usually run late afternoons and on the weekend in the late morning. My drinking habit has not changed in years. I am a terrible day drinker, so it really doesn't matter what time I run, I hydrate with water or a low calorie sports drink. I enjoy my craft in the evening, when my work is done, both career, family, and my run. I usually have one to two bombers depending on my schedule, most if not all the time it's an Alpine, Kern, or Russian River, IPA or DIPA. I like the refreshing qualities of IPA/DIPA.

    Cheers....

ran my first 10k a couple weeks ago (actually 7 miles)... was an experience with 12,000 other runners... but afterward the frangelic mountain brown i opened tasted fantastic. definitely something to be said for a tasty beer being a little extra tasty after a tough workout, when you feel you really earned it. plus, nothing like exercise and booze to really get those endorphins flowing!

Give me some cold German lager after a run in the summer heat and I'm a happy man.

This thread depresses me. I'm a former 60-70 mile a week guy with a bad case of plantar fasciitis on my rt foot. Slowly trying to work my way back.

To answer the question, any lighter pale ale would be fine with me post run.

I guess I wouldn't call myself a 'runner' then. I never understood how people actually enjoy running. For me its just a way to stay in shape. Now hockey, thats a sport I can enjoy and keep in shape and always enjoy a cold one after a beer league game.

Take a chilled Heady to the top!

But seriously, both hikes are pretty straightforward and fun. The Burrows Trail is slightly more difficult and technical (read: interesting) and the Monroe Trail features a more gentle gradient if you aren't confident with your fitness. Both are rewarding options.

The best way to do Mansfield, imo, is to park at Underhill State Park and take the Halfway House Trail to the Summit Ridge Trail. From there, you'll traverse the Summit Ridge Trail to the Sunset Ridge Trail. Take this down to complete your loop. Time it so the sun is setting on the way down and you will be rewarded with breathtaking scenery of the surrounding landscape, Lake Champlain, and the Adirondacks. . . Dependent upon the weather, of course, but it's looking good! Come to think of it, I think I'm headed that way Sunday. Maybe I'll see you on the trail!

    Cheers!

i enjoy competitive sports too (in the vein of pick-up basketball, football, etc), but IMO running is a different animal altogether - enjoyable on a different level. i work a 3-11 shift and run home after; that late the city is quiet and just makes for a great de-stressing activity - physically and mentally - especially with a good playlist providing the soundtrack. and then that tasty beer to cap off the day!

edit: as long as you you're out there piling up the miles, whatever your motivation, i think you can call yourself a runner.
