No saying they made a mistake just asking if i was correct in my assumption that nitro lightens a beer... Ill try it but i like my motor oil in a can lol

I don't think there's any rule that states nitro only works with one style or another. Nitro works on certain beers. I don't think it works very well with Wake Up Dead, but works fantastic on Old Rasputin. But I've also had some lighter beers that tasted amazing on Nitro. Berkshire Brewing Co's Lost Sailor IPA was really good when hooked up to the Nitro line.

I'm a fan of Nitro beers, I've tasted the same brew side by side at Pisgah Brewing, one nitro, one regular. The Nitro had a better feel, creamy feel to it. Not sure what this does to the viscosity, guess I should read the link in the thread. The beer didn't feel any "lighter" just creamier to me. That's my perspective.

To me, it adds viscocity and creaminess. I don't have any science to back this up, just seems the smaller bubbles have that effect on the body/mouthfeel.

Without scientific reasoning behind it, it's just an opinion (which is totally subjective and worthless).

Most nitro pouts I've had have smoothed out the beer but flattened the flavors, and dulled them. Don't like it all that much.

It's not worthless, it's how you taste it. And perception of taste is important when drinking beer. You don't drink using anybody else's palate.

Has the fact Guinness do their draught stout in nitrokeg form made everyone assume that's how stout ought to be served?

Having a Wake Up Dead Nitro right now and, although it is nice and creamy, it tastes pretty boozy and unbalanced. I'm not really enjoying it and wish I had bought Nitro Milk Stout instead.

Rasputin on nitro is pretty much automatic 1 or 2 anytime I'm at a bar that has it. It might be my favorite thing to see on a list especially because it's ~$5.

GBS on nitro was pretty awesome this year as well. That's a milk stout though.

Had the Sawtooth Nitro in bottle format and I don't think it is as good as when I had it on nitro-tap. Left Hand is onto something with the nitro bottles, but I don't think they've perfected it yet. It was more flat than I wanted.

    BTW, I poured it correctly

Had Old Rasputin on nitro tap while out this weekend and also sampled Wake Up Dead nitro from a bottle. The Old Rasputin I didn't care for at all. That's one of my favorite RIS and one I drink pretty regularly. The nitro took away a lot of the things I love about that beer- mainly the oily mouthfeel and the bitter roasty finish & aftertaste. I was with a buddy who likes really creamy stouts so the nitro was perfect for him. In the end it all comes down to personal preference. For the record, I actually liked the Wake Up Dead bottle I had, but I haven't had the regular version to compare it to.

I agree with you, OP. RIS on nitro seems to contradict everything that makes the style unique. But it also may help some people get into RIS that normally wouldn't enjoy that style of beer.

So after having the wake up dead nitro, while the thickness isnt there the creamyness is over the top, deffinatly will be enjoying this again

Does nitro affect how the beer will cellar compared to a traditionally carbonated RIS?
