One of my first jobs out of high school (late 70's) was working in a local apple cannery. We made apple juice and apple sauce, mostly. The jars of sauce would get filled, go through a a cooling tunnel (basically a big open tank of water. It would take about 50 minutes for a jar to get from one end to the other. Then they would get air dried, and sent through the labeler. The machine that applied the glue to the labels used solid chunks of glue, that were melted, dripped onto the labels and then applied. I toured a local plant a few years ago, and while their products were different, the system was fundamentally the same for labels. I found the RR system interesting.
