I just assembled my mash tun last week and tested it for leaks etc. prior to making my first 5 gallon all grain batch yesterday I noticed a decent amount of rust on the brass nipples threads in side my cooler.... I'm assuming this is why everyone suggests putting Teflon tape on the threads prior to screwing on the braided hose.... Does any one have any rust removing suggestions or do I get as much off as possible and then use my self adhesive tape keep the rust covered or do I need to invest in a stainless steel nipple.??? Im hoping I don't need to disassemble as it took me a day to make this dang thing leak proof!!

Can you post a picture? Brass will oxidize and tarnish, but doesn't rust like steel or iron. What material is the braided hose? How about the washers?

Teflon tape helps stop leaking at the threads. It won't act as a corrosion barrier.
