Hey everyone, I've been a student at RU New Brunswick for a while now, and it seems I will continue to be a Grad student now for a while longer. Anyway, I've been thinking about getting a group together to drink some good beers together. Let me know if you are interested by posting in the thread or BM-ing me. Cheers!
I'm an alumni of Rutgers and still live in the area, let me know what ideas you have. Could probably hit up Stuff Yer Face or something.
I go to Rutgers Camden, but I've got a couple of Rutgers NB friends who are beer nerds (one's a Belgian!). I go up to visit on occasion. I might be interested in getting together at Stuff Yer Face or something sometime.
I'm taking classes at Rutgers until the end of this semester. I commute, but could probably do something. On a related note, what are your guys' thoughts on Harvest Moon? They continue to disappoint me, which is itself really disappointing, considering its walking distance from College Ave.
I liked a couple of their local brews at Harvest Moon. Never had a problem with them. Didn't go there too often though to dissect their selection though. Most of my college bar days were getting wasted on easton ave . If I remember right, they didn't have much of a selection, they just menued their own beers and a couple others. I was class of 09` so I visited Harvest Moon around 08-09 so don't know if it went downhill from there.
Graduating this year, I am definitely interested. BTW the bar to go to IMO in the area is the old bay. Their beer selection is stellar, and I am regularly surprised when I go. My friends laugh at me because it is common for me to claim the beer menu to be the best yet on an every other week basis. Not to mention its half price (after 10) on thursdays, and starting tomorrow I believe Sundays will be half too. Going during these specials (forgot wednesdays $3 drafts) is like cheating, SN northern hemisphere on tap the other week was under $3. I love stuff, especially the food (porktachoes and bolis!). I really wish they had more variety on draft though.
RU Class of 2006. I've always been a fan of the brewers at Harvest Moon. Late in 2008, the old headbrewer, Matt, let me hang out on brewing days and help out with milling and filtering. The Moon and Old Bay were my usually haunts. The beers at the moon were okay. Kyle is the brewer, now. The last I heard was that he had acquired a few barrels for an aging program. I believe he said they were Jack barrels. I think he has a barleywine and an imp stout aging. He said they are having or had a beer dinner in the books. Perhaps, those barrel-aged beers were reserved for that night. Either way, Kyle has been more experimental with his brewing. It helps that he's a fan of special beers, including BourbCo Stout, New Glarus, and Hill Farmstead.
Met Kyle at GABF in Denver this past year. Great guy to talk to. Looking forward to what he brings at Harvest Moon. I think their Barleywine is damn tasty. However, for overall beer, Old Bay is the place. Had 120 minute on tap their a few times and they seem to get some nice West Coast beers that typically aren't distributed. As for a bottle share or something like that I would be down. I live right next door in Piscataway.
Anybody in the New Brunswick area let me know if you are interested in a IP trade. Dont know what I want or what you want but always up for meeting some new BAers.
I'm not Rutgers affiliated but I am located in New Brunswick. I also have connections to southern california for trade purposes. I would be interested in a NB gathering. As far as Harvest Moon I have been disappointed by a lot of their beers but I did like the Imperial Stout that they had on a month back. Beer list at the Old Bay is nice but I also want to mention the George Street Ale House. It may not be as college-scene as HM or OB but the GSAH has some nice stuff.
Ive been to George Street Ale House a few times and it just seems to me that although they had above average tap selections, I was never really excited for something they were offering. Although at OB, everytime I walk in I am surprised by at least 2 things on tap. And surprisingly Golden Rail (i know, i know) has something decent every time. Had a pitcher of Arrogant Bastard for like $9 a few months back.
Just checked the tap list at Old Bay (http://www.oldbayrest.com/menu_view.asp?lid=1&mid=8&cid=29). Some really good stuff...now i must go to it!! Should def meet up there if we ever meet up anywhere.
I believe that list is out of date. However, I am definitely down for a meet up at Old Bay. Just has to wait til after Easter as I gave up beer for lent. Stupid me.
Yea that list is outdated but it gives you an idea of what to expect there I actually remember being there when they had that list, I'm not sure why they never update their site but they should
I live down easton ave, I'm down for a beer club or sorts. like said above, old bay is great, golden rail has a decent beer selection on tap. had some arrogant bastard there last week $4 a pint
