Recently went out looking for rye beers for a trading partner, and was a bit surprised to find somewhat slim pickings.

Luckily NYC has some good stores so I found several interesting beers looking for suggestions of awsome rye beers, readily available but would be something interesting for trading partners.

(i.e Founders Red Rye readily available, but not worth shipping in a trade.)

I know of a few others but curious to suggestions, possibly not rated highly under on top beers making them otherwise unknown.

My favorites are Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye and Founders Reds Rye. SN Ruthless Rye was pretty good, but the first two I like a lot more.

EDIT: oops I missed the part about you looking for the less popular ones.

Founders Red's Rye and Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye are of course both amazing! New Holland Rye P.A. Hatter is out right now, which I thought was really solid. Arcadia Sky High Rye is solid. FW Wookey Jack is a black rye IPA, it's amazingly good too.

Spider Byte would have been a perfect extra...I passed on Wookey Jack based on the above criteria but maybe should have considered it.

Ill see if I can track down Arcadia.

Yeah, Sky High Rye is worth checking out IMO.

Def pick up a Wookey Jack though!

Sixpoint Righteous Ale is also worth mentioning. I tend to agree with the consensus that Founders Reds Rye and Bear Republic Hop Rod are two of the best widely available rye beers but since neither of them are sold around here, I find Righteous to be almost a suitable substitute.

Not sure you can get it in New York, but Boulevard Rye-on-Rye is excellent.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye is awesome.

Righteous Ale is nice, 16 oz tall boys too.

Yes it is! Also if you can trade for it, BA Hi-Fi Rye is great.

Hop Rod Rye, Righteous Ale and Wooky Jack for sure.

The Bruery Rugbrod is a good choice for an atypical rye beer. Not sure if you have distro though.

As far as widely available stuff goes, I think Hop Rod Rye and Founders Red Rye are awesome brews, but I prefer Two Brothers Cane and Ebel just a little bit more...

He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A. is great stuff. I'm also a fan of the mentioned beers like Founders Red's Rye PA, Two Brothers Cane & Ebel, and Great Lakes Rye of the Tiger..

So do I, but only when I feel like spending $20 for a six pack.

Founder's Red is arguably the best. Hoprod Rye is a go-to Rye beer for me and surprisingly enough, if you can still find some SN Ruthless Rye, it's held up fine and is still drinking fantastic.

I was about to write that you should be able to find that Boulevard in Texas. At least it was on the shelves in San Antonio earlier this year. I'm assuming you have a Texas connection? Put them to work!
