Okay so I'm formulating a recipe as a tribute to my late stepmother, and it will be my first brew on my current setup at home. A little background, she was mostly Irish and English with a little German, had red hair, a fiery personality (in a good way) and was one of the sweetest and most caring people I've ever known, perfect for my dad. So as a tribute the beer style will be an Irish Red, and I was thinking as an interesting twist I could use some rye and perhaps some hops with some spicy character. My question is how will this mesh with the traditional Irish Red ingredients. Here's what I came up with, lemme know what you guys think:

Might be kicking up the rye to 4 lbs and the MO down to 16 to let the rye stand out more.

I have no personal experience with Marris Otter malt or brewing an Irish Red so I cannot help you other than to bump this thread. I love the idea of a tribute beer and and condolences on your loss.

I think it looks good as is. You could up the Rye or leave it, I think it would be fine either way.

I agree add more rye, also do not forget to add some rice hulls, rye is very sticky.

Me either! So it should be fun brewing it. I'll let ya know how it goes maybe you can brew one soon too. And thank you I appreciate it

Thank you, I agree but I might want to make the rye more pronounced. I might just kick it up 1 lb. instead to be safe

EDIT: Primrose, I see you agree the rye should be more pronounced. And yah I forgot to include rice hulls in the recipe, never brewed with rye or wheat but I definitely don't want a stuck sparge.
