DISCLAIMER: I had no intention of turning this into a "Sam Adams hate thread" upon my posting. I respect SA, but many others will, I presume, hate on SA within this thread.

I just purchased a 12er of Octoberfest (which is one of my favorite SA beers) cans. It seems the recipe has changed since last year. Or maybe because it's in a can? The beer tastes a lot like an AAL. Too much of a corn flavor is present. Anyone else experience this?

It seems like this comes up a lot with packaging variants: "Hey, I had X beer in Y package, it wasn't anything like what I remember X beer tasting like." Did you email them? Do you know where the canned beer and the previous beer (draft or bottle or both? You don't say) were brewed? Did you go pick up a sixer of this year's non-canned beer and try it side-by-side? Do you know what you bought was this year's Ofest, or could it be an old one?

Not saying you're wrong, but 1) a recipe change on what I assume is one of their biggest sellers would be a big deal and not done lightly, and 2) there's a ton of variables you didn't address. In general I assume a canned beer is the same as the bottle and draft, unless there's evidence otherwise, like Sierra pale. Most small brewers don't differentiate, although that obviously doesn't apply to Sam. So while I admit it's a possibility, I think if you poured Budweiser next to that can of Sam Ofest, there would be a stark contrast that would make you pause before calling the Sam an AAL.

And I've had some of this year's Sam Ofest and it was fine, malty and good, certainly nothing like Budweiser or other AALs.

It tastes wonderful out of the can and the same out of the bottle!

Was it as cold as the Rockies and/or colder than Ice Cube? If the leaves on the can aren't blue, don't drink it.

They just started canning so no way this is last years batch. I used to love SA Oktoberfest but I've had so many good beers over the last 5 years that I don't care for it anymore.

I've only had it from the bottle this year. Still tastes as good as ever.

It appears I was drunk whilst posting/creating this thread. Just had another Octoberfest straight from the can. It was delicious. Carry on.

Sometimes a beer tastes like nothing or strange based on what I am eating, or have eaten, or drank before hand. A few weeks ago after having a couple of IPAs, a Founders Breakfast Stout had a slight metallic taste. The next night I tried another and it was fantastic (just like the other 30 bottles I have probably consumed).

i like the can shape. because of the shape, do you think we can easily turn the empty cans into cups?

It drinks the same for me, bottle or can. They've fairly well perfected inner can coatings, and perfect for craft beer. No more skunky ales!

Yeah, it was much better last year, and I am told it will be even better next year.

I've yet to have it in a can, but I'm about to pick up a 12 pack this week for tailgating Saturday. CAN'T WAIT
