how do you guys feel about stores that sent people to purchase cases at the specs/krogers with no limits, only to mark the bottles up ~2x and sell them?

I'm more curious about these so-called peeps who were sent out to buy cases.

    sorry for the delay.

i wandered into a store yesterday down in the suburbs, and the owner asked me if i wanted any pumpkinator. he told me he sent an employee / went himself / whatever to krogers around houston buying up cases. he was only given one case by his distributors. so he's reselling the bottles he bought at kroger, but for ~$15/bottle.

the legality of this, i'm not sure about.

left me with a pretty sour taste, obviously. wanted to see what you guys thought about that.

Very illegal. He could lose his licence and more.

I don't see how that is any different than the person selling bottles at Freetail for 2x cost during SMASRD or whatever the acronym is

HD was canned with unlabeled cans. It was only once. It was only for volunteers and staff only.

I went to three stores to gather about a case's worth. Practically all had capping issues, and one leaked in my fridge. I contacted them and they exchanged my bottles.

What I don't understand, is that SA is a reputable brewery and they have been around for about 20 years...how did they miss this??

My 1 case picked up from Specs midtown on release day seems to have to no capping issues on any of the bottles.
    Batch code is 243-246/BW091813 13:44.

I did have some issues with Sailing Santa bottles last year.

If the cap is NOT tilted, twisted, crooked, or looks strange in any way...

Is there still concern for cellaring the bottles that appear to be normal/correct?

I had one of mine tip over in the pantry and leak out on the tile. I think I am just going to drink the last 2 I have left, instead of cellaring them. I have a couple of 2012's left to supplement.

I had a leaky bottle so I emailed SA through the email given on this thread ([email protected]) and I received a response today:

"Thank you for the note and we apologize for the issue. We have discovered that we had a quality issue with our crowns that affected a large amount of one of the Pumpkinator bottling runs. We are trying to understand exactly what the issue was and are taking action to make sure it never happens again.

If convenient, please bring your bottles to the brewery. We will replace the leaking bottles and give you some tour passes as an apology. Also, our getting the affected bottles back helps us understand the problem better.

If coming to the brewery is not convenient, please take the leaking bottles back to the retailer you bought them from. Also, if you give us your address we will send you some tour passes.

Please accept our most sincere apologies for this issue. We work hard to produce the best beer possible, and leaking bottles is a long way from this goal. We will do better in the future.

    We appreciate your support.

    Cheers!

    Brock Wagner"

Given I don't live in or near Houston and I don't keep receipts from beer (bought them before I knew about the leaks) neither of these were options. Thankfully only one of ten bottles had a leaking problem and a few of the others with crooked caps have been drank or will be drank soon. The leaky one I just drank last night. Glad SA is responding to this, not that I had any doubts though.

Neither of those is a good solution if (1) I live in the Austin area, and (2) the retailer I bought them from is sold out and won't be getting any more.....so whats option #3?
