Am I supposed to pour the sediment into the glass or not? If you're not familiar with Dogfish Head's beer, it has a fair amount of pretty chunky sediment floating around the bottom. I'm not familiar enough with traditional sahti to know whether I'm supposed to include it in my drink or leave it in the bottle. Thanks in advance.
I would say pour the first half gingerly so as to not get any sediment. The remainder, I would include the yeast. Regardless of tradition in regards to Sahti, I think it would be enjoyable to see how the beer drinks in both lights.
That's where it stands right now - made sure the first half of the bottle poured clean. All the sediment's waiting for me in the second half of the bottle.
And that's what's up right now, too - tastes a little more bitter and a little more chalky - but very good. The particles make me think it's more in line with what they were drinking back in the day. I really like this beer. As sahtis go, is this a good representation (I know Dogfish Head got a little creative with the chai tea, but still...)?
