Not to quibble but few people on BA understand the cost of doing bar business and those that do probably stay silent. I sell BB at $13 and feel like we MAYBE could drop a $1 in price. That being said I offered BB#1-6 all at that same price. The neverending problem is bars can not match the price point of a bottle shop and keep their doors open. Sure they can cut corners but then service sucks.

To offset this I did offer flights of all 6 for $18 which worked out to be <$9 a bottle.

Anyway not calling your thought process out specifically because I understand, I just didn't want to perception to exist that a bar selling this product at >$10 means they are somehow making tons of cash on it because even then the margins are pretty thin.

The difference with this beer is that it isn't sold in bottle shops - it is only sold in bars. So, I am curious how some can easily sell it for 8-9 bucks while others are charging upwards of 15-18 bucks.

I get there is overhead, but selling a bottle to-go is not much overhead...and it is not like they are sitting around for a long time either. I got mine for 9 bucks at a bar....I am wondering what makes your overhead that much more than at other bars.

Just my thought process as well...from a consumer standpoint.

I refuse to buy it there. There are a few other places that get it in Beaumont and sell it for $8-9 and I have no problem spending my money there. The problem is that MLG doesn't care. They still had BB4 left over when they got BB5. As long as it eventually gets sold, which it does, they keep it at $15.

Would anyone know a place in San Antonio to grab a bottle to go today?

The monthly rent here is well over >$10,000 and we staff 20-25 people basically all the time. Not every bar has that kind of overhead and some of the bars I've seen selling it for more than me have significantly less overhead.

In other words - sometimes you are paying for more than just the beer

Doesn't explain how a Spot in a dirt lot with 3 employees needs to charge $18 a bottle....

I would say it has to do.with case prices. The places who seem to.charge higher are in non-houston cities. I can't imagine all the places in sa/Austin/Dallas are daily calling SA to order another keg/bottles ect

I was surprised to find out that I could order more #6 today. Picked up an additional 3 cases for immediate sale with 1 in deep storage for future flights. That said this is the first beer release in a long time where I've fielded phone calls from people as far away as Denton looking for a to go bottle.

I sort of called them out on this when I lived in Beaumont, but other places seem to be high up there too..

The lowest you'll find it there might be 9-10 dollars.. which is disgusting really.

I honestly think SA doesn't care about the price gouging in Beaumont.. I think I've seen some of their reps there on certain "tap takeovers" or "special cask" days and those were overpriced as well. They had Pumpkinator on cask once for 10 dollars a pint, which I think is crazy.

So, then, do all of your beers cost $2-3 bucks more than elsewhere or do only the limited release ones that people are taking to-go that don't cost as much as they use up less of peoples time? If it is an overhead issue, than have it where people have to have a beer on site to get one to go.

    Again, just my 2 cents.

$10 is the lowest I ever saw it in DFW with most places being ~12. Do you mean that pricing it at $15 while others are at 9-10 is disgusting or just the fact that it's 9-10+ to begin with? If the latter, the problem isn't really isolated to Beaumont.

I don't want to speak for him, but Saucer's bottle prices have always been higher than average IME. And it's Saucer, so they don't even do to-go afaik.

Ah...it is the Saucer he runs? Didn't realize that. If it is only for on premise consumption, I don't have as big of an issue with it being 2-3 bucks more than a to-go bottle.

I can't wait for bb7 since we have one place on this side of town that sells it to go and when bb7 comes out they'll decide to sell bb6 at that time for the first time at a one bottle limit, etc, etc and so on.

Bars that sell more of their beer deserve to get the limited stuff..... I would absolutely do the same thing.. if someone buys a few kegs a year.... and I have tons of bars in Houston and other cities... that are buying a lot more.... that is who I'm going to help out... sell them the limited stuff, driving in more customers and selling out easily...

No ones wrong here, but calling it bullying is just stupid... Rockwell sounds a bit crybabyish to me...it would be pretty easy to have an Icon tap up year round.. and those beers have all been very good to great.

The latter, although I could understand 9-10.. in the end with taxes it ends up being more..

It's a shame a 12 oz bottle that should be anywhere from 6-8 can go as high as 15... and people still buy them.

I know this because MLG has been doing that for a couple of years.. if not all since BB was released.

Bought a bottle of BB6 @ Downhouse today. $11, on-premise only, and served at a perfect ~55 degrees. Went down great as a dessert beer/digestif.
