Quick Saison Dupont question: Forgive my ignorance here, but I'm wondering how much freshness comes into play with Dupont? My local beer shop has a 750 bottled early to mid 2016 and I'm wondering how much the beer will have deteriorated at this point? My thought is the bottle-conditioning would help keep things tasting decently well for a while, but I'm not entirely sure.

Point being: I'm really in the mood for some Dupont, but should I let this bottle sit and hold out for something fresher? Thanks!

Is the green or brown bottle 750?
Personally I'm not a fan of the green 750s since the smell reminds me so much of Heineken. Don't let that deter you though, because many of the major Belgian saison producers insist on using green bottles because the light-striking(?) causes the beer to pick up more complexities.

To answer your question, at least in my neck of the woods, it's rare to find a fresh bottle of Saison Dupont. Those Belgian saisons tend to hang on pretty well with age, even if they don't have Brett additions.

I have had Dupont that old and older and they are always very enjoyable.

I would say that Dupont is a resilient beer, but what it loses in freshness isn't worth what it gains from maturing in the cellar.

Agree with @AugustusRex on this one. Avec Les Bons Voeux and Moinette Blond (my personal favorite) probably have a little more lasting power due to the higher ABV, but with all of these beers it is more of a question of resiliency that improvement with ageing. With that said, whenever I go to Belgium, I have no qualms about stocking up on these beers to stick in the cellar without any consideration of how long it will be before I drink them. Of course, 3.50 euro for a 750 makes those decisions rather easy.
