Question for the BA experts. I have a number of stouts and porters I keep in my basement for enjoyment down the road. I know hoppy beers need to be enjoyed soon, so I don't age them. My question is what about Saisons/Farmhouse Ales? For example, I got a really nice Hill Farmstead Civil Disobedience #6 back in November. I am curious what time frame I should consider for enjoying it.

    Thanks in advance!

Send Phil or Shaun an email to the info address at HFB. They've been helpful in that regard. I always have their saisons around for awhile as I can't get through them all quickly, and found the barrel-aged one to age very nicely.

Thanks Duchess...good idea. Not sure why I hadn't thought of that before.

I have had good experiences hanging onto saisons for later enjoyment if they have brett or the like. I don't have any experience with the hill farmstead beer mentioned. A couple that come to mind are anchorage love buzz and logsdon seizon bretta. I've done the same with tank 7 but prefer that one sooner vs later......however the saison- brett which I believe is the tank 7 with brett is really good a year later. It's been fun to try them at different intervals. I think I will have one today.

I wrote Shaun and he responded right away. So cool of him to do that.
He said that in general these beers will keep well for a year more or less depending on the conditions they were kept in. He said CD #7 and Anna are drinking great right now.

So far my sweet spot for aging Saisons is in the 1-2yr range. The balance between hop and spice can change quite a bit depending on the beer. Best results for me so far are with Brett saisons. Depends how much funk you like. Anything with fruit like Peche N Brett for sure drink fresh imo

    I LOVE cellar aged Saison's!
GI Sofie with 2-4 years is incredible!!!
GI Pepe Nero mellows very nicely in two years
Victory Helios with at least 2, awesome
ST Cherry Saison is still drinking great and they haven't made it in years!
Surly Cynicale is still wonderful after 3 years
Bruery Saison De Lente and Saison Rue are just off the charts brilliant after 3-5 years
Smuttynose Farmhouse is one of my favorites fresh or aged for 2 years
    Southampton Saison Deluxe
PT Jack D'or and Field Mouse Farewell are awesome with some time!

Looking forward lots of great Saisons down the road and up from the cellar:
    Stillwater
    Crooked Stave
    Logsdon Farm
    Evil Twin
    Goose Island
