Absolutely love Dupont, definitely one of my favorite beers. What are your thoughts on saisons that compare to Dupont?

Thanks Azori. My beer store is excellent but can't get those there. Is Bruery Rue worth a try?

Saison Rue is VERY different from Dupont. They shouldn't even be in the same discussion.

Hmmm....as for similar saisons to Dupont, that's a tough one, since Dupont has a very unique yeast characteristic. Why mess with the best?

The only one I can throw out there, and its similarity to Dupont is dubious, is Ommegang's Hennepin.

IMHO nothing bruery does is worth the money they cost. so that is up to you. Many think they make great beer, I am not one of them. and at the prices they charge they can take a flying leap.

I tried every Saison I can get here, made in North American none compare to Dupont. nada, not 1. IMHO.

This is pretty accurate. Hennepin is a good saison (bit of a banana bomb) but it's not all that close to Dupont. The closest I've come to Dupont in the saisons I've tried is Hill Farmstead's La Vermontoise, it had that same bone dryness and some nice funk without being too sweet or sour.

I think I'm going to have to get a Dupont now, it's been too long since I've had it.

yea its like Orval, I get mad at the price, I post about it, I end up at the store buying some. I drink Dupont at least twice a month. even in my days of limited fixed income....
at least you get 2 mugs for 8 to 9 bucks. 750ml.... only size to buy btw.

Saison is one of my favorite styles and I've never had one that tasted like DuPont. However, as I have previously said here, I think that's a good thing. DuPont just has too much lemon-like bitterness for my liking.

I've never had an older bottle of Saison Rue, which is probably when it's best (once the brett kicks in) but I agree they severely overcharge for their beers.

That's funny that you mention Bruery not being worth the money. I keep trying them and liking them, but not so caught up in the hype, and definitely not crazy about the price. Like Hennepin, but not as much as Dupont. Hill Farm would be great if you can get it. Only one exception to Dupont (standard) I have had yet and that was the dry hopped Dupont--sooo good.

If you ever get to Northern France hit all that are left of the tiny farmhouse ale brewers you can find. many are not as hop forward. I do not get the lemon (at least not the really sour) you are talking about when I drink it. I mean I get the citrus but its more orange like, sweet to me.

No love for de Glazen Toren? Unfortunately it costs more than Dupont and the scent/taste isn't quite the same but I find it to be a worthy rival. Among American saisons I'd opt for Boulevard Tank 7 over Hennepin any day.
I completely agree that Saison Rue is significantly over priced, there are, however, far worse North American "saisons".

I like the dry hopped a lot, but because there's so little hop presence in the base, it's a very different beer ... also, I liked last year's better than the new one.

Good call on Tank 7, very good one.

Like I said...the Hennepin thing was just for lack of a better name to throw out there.

Hennepin is an excellent option as it is easily available in my area. Just found a local place that has Glazen Toren, so I will give that a try--thanks for the tip on that.

I support this thread. I had some other dupont beer recently with a castle on it that was just as good or better. Anyone know what this was? I forgot the name.

Not a saison, but I am intrigued... There's also a cider I've been seeing around lately by the name Etienne Dupont, but I think the Dupont name is a coincidence not a related enterprise, can anyone confirm or deny?

Besides the dry hopped, I haven't had any of the other Dupont products. Sounds like Beloeil is good. What about Moinette or others? Seems like I can get those pretty easily.
