The wife and I will be spending some time in Salzburg next week visiting my sister. I wanted to see if there were any good beer spots we should check out. I know we're planning on hitting up a biergarten but I'm not sure which one. Are there any good stores in the area? I'd love to find some cantillon. Any chance of that around there?
Augustiner Salzburg is a fun spot. You get to choose your own Krug to be filled when you sit in the Biergarten. Food is good too. http://www.augustinerbier.at/ Stiegl also has a really nice restaurant attached to the brewery that made for a very nice evening. http://www.imlauer.com/en-restaurant-stieglbraeu.htm
If you are at Stiegl, take a look at their shop - http://www.stiegl.at/de/getraenkeshop/standorte/salzburg/oeffnungszeiten-salzburg/ - there you can also get their special releases, only available there (At the Moment, they have a "Fastenbier")...
You will never regret a trip to Augustiner Salzburg...hell, I'm thinking of making a trip into Salzburg right now just to drink copious amounts of their amber nectar
I wouldn't miss this place, either: Weissbierbrauerei Bernd Tobsch Rupertgasse 10, 5020 Salzburg. Tel. 0662-8722 460 Fax 0662-8722 464 Email: [email protected] http://www.dieweisse.at/ They brew one of the best Weissbiers around. I've a full pub guide to Salzburg here: http://www.europeanbeerguide.net/salzburg.htm
Another endorsement for Augustiner. The Schmankerlgang with all its stands offers to the chance to pick out some rolls (from the baker's stand) and some sausages or other meat (from the butcher's) and put together your own picnic to eat out in the Biergarten. Very cool place.
I have very fond memories of Augustiner. Sit outside if at all possible. Also leave some time for a tour of the many rooms. Also a fun option for lunch is to take the venicular to the Festung and eat outside at the café. Fresh Stiegel and phenomenal views. Salzburger is a great walking city that I’m sure you will enjoy. Report back after your trip!
I didn't find much in the way of stand-out places in Innsbruck, to be honest. Still, a nice enough place overall.
Same experience for me. It's a nice town, got some good beers to try, but nothing spectacular (that I found) in the way of a good beer hall.
While in Innsbrook, I discovered Landbier Hell from Brauerei Kapsreiter GmbH (literally Cow Rider). Awesome when fresh and was widely available. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4459 Take the ski lift up the mountain (at least halfway) and then hike down. You will get lost but the trail is easy to pick back up. You will really be ready for a beer when finished. Another great town!
Sounds like what we did (and exactly what happened) in Berchtesgaden (very close to Salzburg). Funny thing is, just before we emerged back on to the right trail (and headed off to the Berchtesgaden Hofbräuhaus and its spectacular Biergarten view) we happened on this mountaineering school... with a bunch of third-graders rappelling down a 50 foot wall. Talk about showing us up!
