This site lists 179 Sam Adams beers. Why do so few of them get national distribution?

    (1) They have more 'current' beers than 'retired', people on BA don't really care about BBC, and many many many of the ones in current should be retired. The brewery has been around for 35yrs, thy've probably made thousands of recipes/ beers in that time.

    (2) They do a ton of draft only beers, if you click around the stuff with very few ratings, it will be like "Sam's Bar IPA" and it's probably just another basic IPA with a slight variation if not the same beer with simply another label.

    (3) I don't know what the brewpub situation is for BBC, but I'm sure they have test batch rigs and makes one-offs for usage at their pubs, or spots in New England. All it takes is some guy adding the entry on BA to make it on the site- it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of the world.

With the rotating seasonal 12pks, and the here and there stuff they make occasionally, I'd think ~60 beers would be accurate for their current portfolio. There's no hard and fast rule (that I know of) where a beer technically needs to be marked retired on this site, but if one guy reviewed the beer, one time, in 2015, I think it's safe to say that's not a current beer. No one really cares enough to clean it up (unless you're up to the task!).

Read the section called "Description of Business", page 2 in the 2018 BBC Annual Report:
The 2018 Annual Report listed these brands for that year.
