As I have posted before, I think that Boston Beer Company is 'test marketing' this beer.

Let's consider their past experience. They produced a Pilsner they branded as Noble Pils originally as a seasonal beer. After a few years they decided to make that be a year round beer and as best I can guess they discontinued this beer due to lack of sales.

Will Downtown Pilsner be a better selling Pilsner for Boston Beer Company? Will the more 'zazzy' brand name be a winner? Will the use of modern German hops be more appealing to the broader craft beer market? Who knows? Why not put out some 6-packs in certain markets and see what happens?

Again, if you have some inside knowledge here that would be helpful.

    Cheers!

I'll be on the look out for any additional information in their e-mails and/or I might ask my local beer guy if he's heard anything from the distributor.

Looks like there is a fourth lager in this as-yet-unnamed series - possibly Test Market given the B&W artwork? A 12 oz. bottle COLA, Ella Blanc IPL, a 6% lager using Australian Ella and German Blanc hops was approved a few days after two IPL keg label (one w/o the "Ella Blanc" name) and the 3 others (below).
