so i am going to boston for St Paddys day weekend again and wanted to do the tour, but saw something about an open house. just wondering if its worth the time? how is it different than the tour? any help is greatly appreciated.
The open house and the tour are very different things. Haven't done the tour in years, but you basically show up, get a guided tour of the brewery, and get 3 7-oz beer samples. Usually Boston Lager, the current seasonal, and 3rd wildcard beer, often an unreleased beer. The open house is something you have to register for. It's generally an after-work scene for locals. Registration usually fills up pretty quickly. You generally get 3-4 samples, last time there was a cask beer, plus some food from a local vendor. There's no guided tour, it's very informal. You just wander around the brewery sippin free beer. If your able to get in I recommend it over the tour.
thanks, just registered for it. looking forward to the trip. hitting up night shift and mcgreeveys. been a couple years since i went up there. any good shops youd recommend?
I think he means how did you register for it? Registration closed days ago. Did you call the brewery?
i was on the brewerys website and was able to register for passes to the event. i have the tickets and confirms already
on the sam adams home page under tours theres a link to eventbrite where you can rvsp 1 or 2 passes. thats where i got my tickets. however i am going to call the brewery to make sure they will honor the passes i got.
Gotcha, yea for the Sam St Pats open house on the website now it still says sold out. I know there is another even open on a Tuesday.
The Sam Adams open house events are pretty cool, they usually have something interesting on tap. I used to go almost every month because I live down the street but they have been "sold out" in mere minutes lately. If you want a good shop near Sam Adams I suggest Streetcar. Very nice and craft-only selection. Bauer Wine and Spirits is worth a stop near Mcgreevy's.
thanks, looking forward to the trip. im hoping night shift still has some cool stuff on their shelves when i go.
