I wrote off Sam Adams when they first started putting those IPA Craft Beer stickers and coasters everywhere in the city last year.

They have always been decent at producing holiday fruit beers but that's about it.

If ever there was a corporation that were blatant bangwon jumpers, it's Sam Adams.

Maybe hire a marketing department that knows how to plan 6 fiscal quarters in advance so you aren't always having to play catch up with smaller microbrewers.

So hoping this turns out to be tasty, I need this to be as much as SA does.

Rebel was so bad I sent Jim an Email and he sent me a check for the beer I bought. I will drink Sam at a bar if there is no other option

    Enjoy

If Sam Adams were Sixpoint or Sierra Nevada we would have had everything we needed to know within a day of this thread being posted.

I really can't believe all the hate towards Sam Adams. Beer is beer, seems like some of you guys are too good for mainstream.

SA has always been a go to for me in the absence of many of the local craft brews, and I've liked the Rebel series to begin with, so I look forward to giving it a try.

Didn't Koch himself say he doesn't even like IPA's? I can't in good conscience support someone who is solely producing something to stay competitive. Also doesn't help that SA is about 4 years behind the IPA/DIPA trend.

Hops are only mentioned seven times on the label? Every other word in the description should be "HOPS".

While I doubt it will live up these expectations, the idea of having an IPA as good as Heady Topper is supposed to be available in every grocery and convenient store nationwide is something I could never, ever complain about.

Mini-rant incoming: I hate chasing whales. While I really want to try Heady Topper/Julius/Green/whatever, the fact of the matter is that I'm simply not going to jump through excruciating hoops to get a hold of a beer that I would want on a regular basis. Availability is something I find very appealing, and while Samuel Adam's IPAs haven't been exactly mind-blowing thus far, I applaud their efforts. I'm waiting for the day when something like Heady Topper WILL be available in every grocery and convenient store across the country. That's the future of beer that I want to see.

I still can't get used to "Sam Adams" and "IPA" being used in the same sentence

If Sam Adams had any balls the label and wording would be making fun of Stone, but I think it's really just unimaginative copy (get it?)

I hope its good so theres a readily available semi cheap dipa around me. Dont like the cheesy description on the can. Yea ipas are best fresh. But you dont have to say it three different ways in a row on the can. But i could dig it

so you're saying your good conscience won't let you support a business that's trying to stay in business?

Just because it mentions that it is "hazy" doesn't mean it is going to be like North eastern IPA's. I highly doubt they are using conan or another english ale yeast strain so right off the bat the beer isnt't going to be in the same vein. For the people who say they want something like Heady or Treehouse readily available, this probably isn't it, not even a close 3rd.

Well, BBC was early to the "cider" segment in the US (earlier than Koch was entering the "craft" beer segment :grinning:), releasing his HardCore brand in 1997. And they dominant it currently.

Don't recall reading any negative comments about cider from Koch - in the beginning he often tied it to his company's Colonial America image via his Samuel Adams namesake brand. Although both brand names he picked - HardCore (OK, a bit of a double entendre/pun) and Angry Orchard (which is based, IIRC, on an old term for tart, cider apples but his PR doesn't explain that) - didn't play on that aspect of being the original American alcoholic beverage. Geez, and all those other Founding Fathers to pick from.
