Found these today at the Costco on 183 in Austin. The box includes one-each of the following:
    • Merry Mischief Gingerbread Stout
    • The Vixen Chocolate Chili Bock
    • Norse Legend Sahti
    • Griffin's Bow Oaked Blonde Barleywine
Four bombers for $19.99. Not bad!

I'm having a little back and forth with @SamuelAdamsBeer on twitter right now about whether this is the only way to get Griffin's Bow or if there will be a general release. They are being vauge. I'm going to email the SA rep I deal with and try to find out more.

    I love that stuff.

BTW, the gift set collections at Costo are beautifully packaged and would make nice xmas presents.

I wish someone would get me one of those for Christmas :slight_frown:

I usually get socks. I hope Sam's gets these too, as my girlfriend has a card there for her business. You could also walk in as a non-member and pay $22 (10% more than retail with a free "guest" 1-day membership. Might be worth it if you're really hankerin' for Griffins Bow.

I think you can buy alcohol without being a member at these places...tabc rule.

Got 2 four packs today, 43 bucks with tax. They all sound pretty tasty.

Nope. Costco is members only, beer and wine license doesn't interfere with that.

The liquor store that shares the building with the Costco in north Austin doesn't require a membership. They also don't have the Sam Adams box set. They do have Double Rogue for $6.99 though.

Same. Great box set. Would be nice if Fat Jack was in it, but I love all the brews in the set.

Got this at the Costco off William Cannon today. Still plenty left along with tons of SN Celebration.

Actually you can buy alcohol without having a membership at Costco. Well, at least in California you can. I did it last year.

I think I am going to pick up another one of these 4-packs. Good deal and it has some pretty awesome beer in it! Thanks for the tip!

I liked the Merry mischief which i had, had before, but the other 3 left something to be desired for my tastes.

I think ill age the second box set i have just to see if it changes anything with the flavor profile.

I believe these Sam Adams' beers are pasteurized, so they won't benefit from aging. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Aging has more to do with oxidation. Abyss is now pasteurized since 2010 and I can say that '10 and '11 are amazing with some age on it. In the case of '11, worlds better with a year on it than fresh.

This is why I said "correct me if I'm wrong".

Once I had a beer that was so oxydized that when I poured the trub at the bottom of the bottle on the concrete patio we were sitting outside on, it instantly made rust. It was kinda cool.

Reminds me of an unopened lager from West Germany we found sitting on the ledge at Gingerman during one of our BA tastings. Literally an Octoberfest with West Germany stamped on the bottle. We ended up opening it, just to see. Cause, you know after 4 hours of drink high alcohol sours and stouts what else are you going to do?:grinning: Tasted like cardboard and vinegar. Way off topic now...

Edit: Sorry, did not mean to one up you. Just trading stories.

On the box it suggested aging, pretty much the only reason i considered it lol

I drank one of those year-old Griffin's Bows the other day and it's still a very good barley wine, if a little non-traditional, but I prefer them fresh. Nelson Sauvin hops, baby!
