Back in the 70s the founders of Atari opened a kids themed restaurant, Chucky Cheese, to give people exposure to their games so that they would love them and then buy them. It worked, Atari was a huge success. Would the same model work for Sam Adams? Open taverns in mid to large cities that serves their beer (all 60 of them) and maybe some local brews. I'm sure there are many pitfalls to this, but I would definitely go and would be more inclined to try some of those other 55 beers that I've never had.

Should state that someone mentioned opening a tavern in another thread--not my idea but a very good one--props

Maybe that way he won't bitch about his beer not being on tap.

Interesting idea. Most states have restrictions of what a brewery is allowed to do where businesses are split between either production (brewery), distributor, or retail (bars, brew pubs). In California, you can have more than one location like Stone does but it could be possible to open another location but probably can't open as many as they want. Stone opened a second brewery so a Sam Adams Tavern isn't a impossible idea.

I think they do release 60 beers but only have 12-15 out at a time. most of the beers are in mixed 12 pack depending on the season

Isn't this essentially how it's done in the UK? Brew Dogs being one example. I have no idea how common it is for publicans to affiliate with a single brewery anymore, though.

Will they serve food? Hot wings, maybe?

    And where is Atari now?

In all serious it would be a good idea. They would make money. The problem is they make so much now that it probably doesn't move the needle.

Sam Adams had a brewpub in Philadelphia in the 90s. I went there quite frequently while in law school.
    not sure when it closed.

it was on top of a restaurant so they didn't serve food and
They only served Sam Adams brews.

There are a couple of Sam Adams-themed bars around, mostly in airports... they are generally terrible.

I would go to a Sam Adams Tavern that has Utopias and vintage Triple Bock on tap!

SA did at one point have a "Sam Adams Brewhouse" right on Boylston street in Bostons Back Bay. Connected to the Lenox if I remember correct.

    "And where is Atari now?"

I did say there would be some pitfalls (that was an Atari game if my memory is correct). It actually mirrors BBC well: Atari crashed when it started to roll out shitty games as quick as possible to meet perceived mass appeal. Got soft, newcomers took over. Now had there been an Atari tavern....

You are correct. It's called Solas now. Back in the late 90's they had local homebrew competitions and commercially brewed the winners beer to put them on tap at the bar. Best beers there IMHO.

Sam Adams doesnt need as much help as a lot of these forums would make you believe. Their stock has went from $13 when it went on the market to $291 per share today, and their profits keep rising. Finacially they are the most succesful American brewery.
