I picked up the spring variety pack last night and the Cold Snap wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. It's a simple, easy-drinker with a decent flavor profile and a subtle bite from the spices. It's better than their currently available white ales and other wheat beers but it's still not as good as Alpine Spring.

Edit: I haven't tried the Escape Route yet but if Sam Adams did in fact just re-brand East-West then I won't complain. That was a solid beer.

Chocolate Cherry Bock. Worst beer. Chocolate Bock. Great beer.

We bought a 24 pack of it just to get the Cherry Bock and Old Fezziwig. Still have most of the others in the garage (came in handy at Christmas)

Does anyone have links to the information on the 2014 Spring Thaw beers? I can't seem to find any of the information on samueladams.com despite a few of you saying the site was updated. I'm aware about the Cold Snap and Escape Route beers. Where is the confirmation on Maple Pecan Porter, Irish Red, and Whitewater IPA posted? What is the deal with White Lantern? Will it still be brewed as a year-round sixer?

PS - A little disappointed Alpine Spring was discontinued. My second favorite seasonal from them...To many whites!

Haha at my (old) favorite local beer shop a few years ago, I went in looking for a mixed winter 12-pack. They didn't have any at the time so the owner (she loved me) told me to just open up a case and mix up my own 12 pack. I did exactly this. 4-fezziwug, 4-holiday porter, and 4-chocolate bock.

I had no desire to buy a winter pack this year. None of the new beers sounded that good to me. Why change something that was already good? This one used to be my favorite seasonal sampler. SA has been doing this like crazy for the past few years. Have any of their seasonal samplers been the same from one year to the next?? How is anyone supposed to get some beer loyalty if they change all of them very year?

The Sam Adams website had a section for the spring variety pack up yesterday but it seems that they've taken it down. As for confirmation, I'll be your source. I have the variety pack in my fridge right now. The lineup posted for the pack is accurate - Boston Lager, Cold Snap, Escape Route, Whitewater IPA, Irish Red, Maple Pecan Porter. Also, Sam Adams decided to rename the pack "Spring Brews" for some reason.

That's really interesting, as I got the info I posted right from their site!

Did you try the Escape Route yet and if so, what did you think of it?

Escape Route is a decent beer. My only real complaint is that it's a bit too soft on the palate for me. I would have liked it to be more crisp.

The spring pack is definitely better sounding to me than the winter. I skippdd out on winter since I,was only nterested in Fezziwig, but will likely pick up a case of this one.

my bro in law bought the pack n we sampled nearly everything. CCB was not well-received. Boston Lager somehow makes every seasonal sampler, i did not try juniper ipa, and the other 3 all tasted nearly the same to me...spice profile was close on them. forgettable but not offensive by any means.

My girlfriend picked it up for us and friends on New Years. I didn't like any of the Winter Pack exclusives besides Old Fezziwig. Boston and Winter Lager are always solid.
