Sam Adams Winter Classics

Sam Adams. Stop filling your seasonal packs with Boston Lager. If I wanted it I would have bought it.

 

Saw it today and was underwhelmed:

4 Sam Adams Boston Lager
4 White Christmas
2 Old Fezziwig
2 Winter Lager

I really dislike this new 4,4,2,2 format.

 

Especially with the 4 lagers. What is up are they having trouble unloading it elsewhere. I will not be buying.

 

I hope sales go down on these mix packs and they go back to the 2,2,2,2,2,2 model. I can live with 2 Boston Lagers as long as I get 10 of something quasi-unique. I want the Old Fezziwig and Winter Lager but not at the expense of 8 beers I don't want.

Thought it was going to have Juniper IPA, Chocolate Cherry Bock, Old Fez, Winter, White Xmas, BL.

 

I love the idea of winter warmers, even more so a solid winter 12 pack mixer. I was a huge fan of Old Fezziwig, their holiday porter was phenomenal. I searched for that shit everywhere. It goes so well with a nice beef stew or pot roast.

I would like to see Old Fezziwig, Holiday Porter and the winter lager. I usually get a few six packs of winter lager, or have it when I go out to eat. My usual go to is SN Celebration and Great Divide Hibernation.

 

Agreed. I love Old Fezziwig, but it's just not worth it for 8 more (I also like the winter lager) beers I don't care to have.

Absolutely certain. Unless they go crazy and have two winter variety packs this year. I saw it next to the cases of the Winter Lager.

 

Not buyiing this again this year. Can already get as much Boston Lager and Winter Lager as I want quite easily. Not really a big fan of the White Christmas; it's a nice enough beer but there are plenty other Christmas beers I would rather buy and drink. So paying for 12 bottles to get 2 Fezziwigs? Nope. Sorry, Jim Koch, not going to happen.

 

I do not understand why the need to place 4 Boston Lager in the Winter Classics pack.... 2 would suffice since it is a year round beer....And really you could just leave it out since they are placing Winter Lager in the pack...
The 2,2,2,2,2,2 pack would be my choice..
2 Winter Lager, 2 Cream Stout, 2 White Xmas, 2 Old Fezziwig, 2 Scotch Ale, and 2 Holiday Porter...

 

Just thought about your post some more. That was what they had in last year's pack. They haven't updated their webpage yet.

If that's the case, you are likely looking at a variety pack from last year (check the date on the case, and that seller needs to take it up with their wholesaler). This year's packs contain White Christmas, Boston Lager, Winter Lager, Old Fezziwig, and Chocolate Bock... at least that's what we were packing out at the brewery the other night. They may be doing a limited run of Juniper IPA at some point for some second variety pack, but Chocolate Cherry Bock isn't coming back until next year.

As for all the variety packs containing Boston Lager, that's entirely marketing (it takes longer to brew that than it does many of our other beers). The philosophy, according to Martin Roper, is to hold our flagship out in front of everything else, so they include it in all variety packs.

 

Disappointed at the lack of chocolate bock and confused at their choices for the 4s, but I'll probably get it once or twice because Old Fezewig is one of their best beers and there aren't any in there I don't at least like.

 

Why would they put 4 BL in their winter pack, when they only put 2 in their fall pack?

 

Agreed. Hopefully it's different then what the poster said.

My first ever mix 12 pack was Sam Adam's 2005/2006 winter mix pack: BL, Old Fez, Winter, Cranberry Lambic (yuck), Holiday Porter, and Black Lager (a favorite of mine for those early years), so again, a special place in my heart for it but I'll pass if it's 4422 with 4 BLs. And bring back Black Lager!

 

I enjoy it. I always liked Old Fez too. I dont enjoy White Christmas at all though. Recall it smelling like a hair perm solution

 

It's here in Texas, and the pack was as an above poster said: BL, Winter Lager, White Christmas, and Old Fezzi. I love these winter packs (and honestly don't mind having BL in them) but I won't be getting one this year.
