Are the wild ales hard to come by or worth it? I frequently see the corked and caged sam bottles but can not recall wild ales. I know they they have the New World tripel and Thirteenth Hour but that's about all I ever run into.
The American Kriek isn't good.. but I enjoy the Stony Brook Red. Up until about a year ago.. i think.. the Stony Brook Red was only available in Mass (I've more recently seen it outside of MA), and should be available anywhere that you would see the New World Triple or Thirteenth Hour. What part of Mass are you located, because I know that I've seen it at Table & Vine and a few other places around Springfield
I work in Worcester and live in Norton. Now that I know I will look more closely Always thought they only had the Triple and 13th Hour. That Beer Geeka episode made ma wanna try the komsic mother funk. I guess its in the stony brook red
I've had kmf at a few fests--ranged from mediocre to by batch. Stonybrook red is delicious; underrated due to pedigree / bias.
people on this site do love to hate Sam Adams, but I know they are one of the biggest reasons that I got into craft beer
If you phone could explain what "kmf" means, it would be even better I thought it was really average - nothing bad, but nothing extraordinary. Although I had it at a big stout tasting, so maybe my taste was affected by other beers or comparisons. The only time I tried Kriek it was completely flat. And, of course, just didn't deliver at all. I mean to re-taste it though. And recently had Tetravis - was somewhat disappointed. Again, the beer was fine, maybe even interesting, but I really like quads and was hoping for something bigger. This one just wasn't there.
kmf = kosmic mother funk... which i have a little self-indulgently point out is pretty obvious if read the post i quoted. but yeah, i agree with you on tetravis (meh), and kriek (sub-meh). still, stonybrook red is the prize. not as good as a belgian kriek or cambridge brewing company's cerise cassee (which is, incidentally, my favorite beer), but it's a really tasty beer.
I kinda skimmed through the second quote I tried KMF once, I think, and I liked it. Stonybrook Red was at a recent Belgian Beer Festival, I think I've tried it, but now can't remember my impression. And no, I wasn't inebriated Perhaps I should re-taste it at a more quiet setting.
KMF has change a lot since it first debuted at an extreme fest back in 08 or so. i always looked back at it as one of the worst things i'd ever had - but it was indeed much more drinkable this past belgian fest. that said, i don't quite get the logic to using this single base as the starting point for so many disparate end products/styles. somehow i just can't accept it as being that versatile.
paste magazine on thirteenth hour (I've never had it myself)... http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/01/samuel-adams-thirteenth-hour-stout-review.html .
