i picked up two bottles of Sam Smith Imperial Stout at a grocery store the other day cus I can never find it anywhere. After I got home and deciphered the bottle date I noticed that both of them had a date of Sepember 2012. I've had this beer aged one year before and it was incredible, but with only being 7% do you think they can last two and a half years? I'll try and post the results when I get a chance

They will be fine to drink. Between 2-3 years isn't that old. Though depending on how they were being stored, they may be somewhat past their prime.

Ive had it old and thought it was fine. A malt based beer like that should handle the time well.

They'll last for sure. I'm not sure how much of an improvement you'll see, but they should be fine. Please let us know how you think it compares. I've never tried cellaring Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout.

I just opened up one bottle. Surprising had a big head. Sadly, a lot of the flavors have seemed to have disappeared. It's past its prime. The beer is still there, and it's still good, but nothing like how it is fresh or with a year on it. I also don't think it was cellared properly in that time see as I just found it in a grocery store at room temp.

ha. not so far back, i found some accidentally buried bottles i bought 2005/6ish, back when Trader Joe's was selling the line. imho, they don't really get better with the age, the good news is they don't seem to fall apart & have still been solid pours.

of course, my opinion is based on memory & a pretty significant gap in time between the handful i opened earlier & the bottles i forgot about. that oldie song Smile now, cry later comes to mind. there was also a Taddy Porter & an old colorful bottle of their IPA in the same re-discovered. drank em both but as expected, i can't give either the same sort of vote of confidence.:grimacing:
