Most of the beer bars I go to have a designated sample size that they charge for. anywhere from $1.50 to $5 for a 4 or 5 oz. pour

Send the food back - ask for the bill - go elsewhere.

With samples - let's put it this way - in the Charlotte area (which I'll include Hickory and Asheville in for the hell of it), the bars that absolutely slay it - all give out samplers.

You must be talking high end stuff - that I wouldn't know much about. Maybe it's just because my girlfriend's cute, but she never fails to get GRACIOUS samples at wine bars. I'm not a big wine guy - like the occasional red, but that's about it.

You've never had a bottle opened at your table and they ask you to try a small sample before pouring for the table??? They do that even at Applebee's

I try to limit my free sample consumption to 2, 3 maximum if I am feeling particularly feminine and cant make up my mind.

The only time that should happen is if the wine is sealed with a real cork, the ceremony of "tasting" a wine at a restaurant is to ensure that said wine is not "corked"

Agree with MacQ67, that is not a sample, you can't send it back if you don't like it. Its to make sure its not "corked"

How is that being a snob? That's why they pour a small serving of wine at the table when a bottle is ordered.

Meant purely in jest - shoulda tossed a smiley face out there with it. Sorry. Someone called the OP (who is a very good friend of mine) a snob.

When I order a bottle of wine at a restaurant more often than not it is $90 or more, a lot more. I'll be damned if I pay for it before I make sure it isn't corked.

@MacQ67 - sorry man - meant as a joke. All good - I agree with you completely on the wine thing.

2 per purchase. Any more and you're a deadbeat.
    See? Wasn't that easy?
