Maybe I'm just a big nerd/geek but it would be cool to map the bottle numbers across the country to see if there is any pattern.

I have been searching for Utopias for years and my wife found one bottle at ABC in Ocala, FL this week...two days after a great friend (beer lover) was diagnosed with lymphoma. When he is done with chemo and feeling good we are gonna open that bottle. Shitty situation but I can't think of a better occasion to for it!

Couple places I talked to say they haven't gotten them in yet.

It's not healthy to hold things in, tell us how you really feel.

Plainfield Binny's had 8 on Thursday of this week for $199.99 each. No, I did not pull the trigger since the budget has been allocated for Black Friday.

Price is out of my league unless I win the lottery or have a moment of extreme weakness. I could buy a bottle of premium bourbon for far less. Bucket list beer.

I'd love to try it, but given the price I'd rather grab a $200 bottle of Scotch.

Albeit steep, I'd pay that for a pour just to try it. I've done that for certain whiskeys from time to time, sparingly.

I have been lucky enough to enjoy a few of the vintages but I never understood their approximate number of bottles compared to bottling numbers for each release. Someone just posted a bottle with number 15,111. This is not a complaint or gripe about limited bottles or scarcity this is just confusion on my end. Anyone understand if this statement is just in general or about a specific release?

According to the 2015 hang tag, only 60 barrels were bottled.

In 2013, 100 barrels made the cut.

I know that each BBC employee gets the bottle number corresponding to their employee number from Jim Koch (#00001) to the new guy.

A guy had one at MBCP last year and he was walking the line pouring samples, it was extremely hot but the heat echoed a lot of dark fruit and raisins. Like others, I'd rather just have liquor but I'm glad I got to try it!

And assuming something like 31 gallons per cask, that's just about 10k 24oz bottles.

My mistake; it should have been 60 wooden casks. Those are in the 55 gallon neighborhood depending on origin, I believe.

As much as the thought of sipping a beer sounds appealing to my spouse. When I think of Utopia, a beer is not #1.

It's fascinating to see how little hesitancy there is to throw down this sort of cash for a 25oz bottle of beer made by Sam Adams. No f'n way.

To put it in perspective, you could get the entire 12-bottle allotment at De Garde next week and still have enough money leftover to have a nice meal back in Portland for about the same price as a bottle of utopias.

We knew what you meant. I wouldn't buy a beer for 2.00 or 20.00 an oz. Cheers!

I've never understood this either. It's supposed to drink like a cognac. You could get some damn nice cognac for 250 bucks. Whatever makes you happy I guess

Ugh. A couple years ago I had a box in my hands at the Milwaukee whole foods. I carried it around for about 20 minutes before I decided to put it back. I feel like this is one of those things that I will end up being able to try some day just by being in the right place at the right time.
