I thought I was familiar with all Sam Adams variety packs, but I saw this guy today at my bottle shop. Seems like an odd collection of styles considering the theme. At least they are doing 6 styles instead of 4, and its nice to see Scotch Ale.

    From Sam Adams:

The coldest season is around the corner, but don't hunker down until you've picked up the Samuel Adams Cabin Pack. In addition to introducing a brand new Session Ale, we're excited to bring back some classics including Scotch Ale, the winner of our Brewer's Vault contest in which we asked you to vote for your favorite throwback beer to bring back in 2016. We have a good feeling this year's pack will get you through winter's chilliest days.

Boston Lager: The backbone of the Samuel Adams family of beers, this complex and balanced lager is a great brew no matter what time of year.

Cold Snap: This crisp and hazy golden White Ale is a sign of warmer days to come with its refreshing blend of smooth wheat and subtle kick of spring spices, fruit, and floral flavors.

Noble Pils: Brewed in the Bohemian tradition yet anything but ordinary, this crisp golden lager is full of character with all five Noble hops for a layered fresh and citrusy flavor.

Escape Route: Our take on the classic Kölsch style combines the subtle fruit notes of an ale with the smooth crispness of a lager for a bright, refreshing brew.

Session Ale: This down-to-earth ale, available only in this pack, celebrates the floral, bitter, and slightly spicy character of Tettnanger hops, along with more earthy notes from East Kent Goldings.

Scotch Ale: Full-bodied with roasted and chocolate malt notes, this beer's subtle smoky flavor is followed by a lingering, sweet finish and distinct coffee character. Brought back by drinker demand, this beer is only available in our Cabin Pack. Once it's gone, it's gone!

    "Brought back by drinkers demand"
Then why "once it's gone it's gone" Shouldn't they keep it ? At least for a seasonal ?

Why? Because "drinker demand" is nothing more than a vocal minority who voted for it (in my case, multiple times) in a contest. It doesn't mean the beer is actually all that popular. I count myself lucky to get some this one last time.

I could do without cold snap; but seems like a decent pack.

Local shop actually had several cases of this broken out as singles, I may fold and eat the slight upcharge per bottle to get a six of the scotch ale.

Other than the Scotch Ale, I can't say any of them are anything I think of for cold weather. Maybe some Browns, porters, big malty DIPA, a thin Barleywine even?

They should've traded Cold Snap for Maple Pecan Porter.

I get that some beers fair slightly better in one season or another but when is there ever a wrong time for any of these particular styles of beer?

Looking at the list, I can't envision myself ever saying "Eh, I can't drink [insert beer style of your choice]. It's too cold outside."

Agreed, but as cold (marketing of cabin pack) as the winters are in Michigan (and I know you know what I'm talking about...), I'm not usually reaching for a pils, wit, or a kolsch. Gimme the malts!!!!

As a person who currently has a fridge full of stuff like Brown Shugga', Anchor Christmas Ale, and Special Double Cream Stout, I know what you're saying. These beers are what I grab when I want an alternative to seasonal fare. This is what I call a really good "anytime beer" pack.

Yea, noticed the same thing this afternoon at big box retailer. I did a double take thinking what the heck is this...... Seems like the winter pack just came out. I'm intrigued a little.

Oh, I'm more anxious for the nitro coffee cans to drop, so I'll prolly pass on this one.
