There are plenty of readily available reasonably priced IPAs out there. Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas are the first two larger breweries that come to mind. If I checked my records, I'm certain there are lots more - big and small. As far as Jim Koch is concerned, I have a long memory and dislike hypocrites and those who stand by their words only until their bottom line is affected which in Koch's case seems like a week or two.

Not sure if you are close enough to the border to have picked up Short's Hopstache (IPA with Grapefruit Zest), but they sold it for $11.99 this year. Amazing, although I still think it could have used more grapefruit. Definitely looking forward to picking up this SA beer to compare to Hopstache and G-Sculpin.

Good call. Met her once, she is super sharp and really nice. Alot of folks on this forum forget when Boston Lager was a stand by. I don't drink Rebel often, but props for evolving with the times.

Seems like quite alot of breweries have jumped on the same IPA bandwagon - why single out SA? Some breweries only make IPAs and people love it - and seems like alot of BA readers only drink IPAs. (and I'm not one of them)

God forbid they had an original thought as a brewery. And that's saying alot because this is totally a piggyback industry.

I'm waiting for the Sam Adams sour lineup. It might catch on, it could be called the Sour Sam lineup.

Grapefruit+cans? Wish this had come out 4 months ago. Sounds like a great boat beer

I'd think the same thing if they were not pioneers of the industry, they aren't the only ones looking at what is going on in the market ... not the only brewery to do a Grapefruit IPA. Just a few listed here:

I don't blame them for jumping on trends, they do have shareholders.

Newsflash: users of this site are not the target market for Boston beer co's base lineup. This beer will bring this trend to the mainstream and a bunch of people will have access to it and most will like it. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Well theyre coming out with a Rebel "Raw" in 16oz/4pk cans. Plus they own Coney Island which makes an alcholoic root beer.

I have no problems with them competing and adding, just wish their stuff was better IMO.

I look forward to trying this. Sam Adams or not, I'll give it a whirl. Will be fun to do this, Schlafly and Sculpin head to head!

Hopefully it's fairly good...might make Ballast Point think about dropping their price.

readily available depending on where you live. There aren't many stores with good craft selections around me but there are a bunch that carry sam adams. If you were to track the comments of many of the worlds top companies, I'd imagine you wouldn't be buying anything, anywhere, ever.

What the last "original" ipa you saw released?

I don't understand peoples obsession with hating on sam adams. Any idea what the problem is for these people?
