I totally agree. Everybody on here is trashing sam adams for making a bunch of different ipas and calling them bandwagon, or a craft 'parody' brand... How is it any different than the thousands of bullshit craft breweries that are opening up and are all just pumping out IPAs? Not that I'm a huge SA backer, but if we are going to pick them apart for brewing ipas with trendy labels and cans, we should be taking a look at the fact that EVERYONE is doing that to make money not just them! Business is business, if the market share of craft beer drinkers are only seeking out IPA, why wouldn't they make a huge variety of them? At least they will be able to distribute with a lower pricetag (speculation), but I guess its not craft enough if you can make more than 15-20 barrels at a shot.

If i see this id try it if i found a single, as every beer ive had with any citrus juice added gives me unbearable heartburn. I like those brews with peel but i have to avoid the juice. Hope this turns out alright.

I think people give SA crap for making all these IPAs now since Koch had openly voiced his distain for the style in the past. It doesn't mean the beers are bad, but it does make them seem like an obvious money grab with no passion behind it.

I totally get what you are saying, and flip flopping happens everyday, look at politicians...they change their stance on ideas weekly haha but from a business point I get why they made the move, even if he doesn't particularly like IPA, you have to follow the trends of what people are buying to keep the lights on. There are more than a few brewers that don't care for IPAs but still make them because they sell..but thats off topic and for another thread.

Very interesting they say the beer is only good for one week. That's a bit extreme no?

Guaranteed to be at the peak of freshness

Growler fills that were brought out after the Long Shot judging ... I am sure the beer lasts longer but I think they are just playing safe at the brewery in JP.

Just noticed that Rebel Grapefruit is on their beer locator. Apparently kegs are hitting distro now and bottles and cans will be early next year. Hoping that they make 12 pack cans of this(like Rebel), as I wouldn't mind paying $5 more for twice as much.

Just cracked one open and am drinking it as I speak (er....type) and it's pretty good. There's a nice hit of grapefruit aroma on the nose and it follows through in the flavor on the finish. Not as pungent of aroma or as bold of flavor as Sculpin but I don't really think anyone really expected it to be. Overall still a damn fine beer.

I really have no problem with SA beer. My oroblem lies with their ad campaign. Based on their commercials, their target demographic are the biggest bunch of d bags on earth, and I don't want to fit in with them.

The Rebel series has been a giant step in the right direction for me. I am trying more SA beers lately and actually seeking them out at restaurants/bars. I love IPA and the citrus/grapefruit note is especially pleasing to my taste. I can't wait to try Rebel Grapefruit IPA. I have not been this interested in SA since they deconstructed the Latitude 48 IPA and made a single hop version IPA with each hop variety. Keep up the good work Sam.

Did not like the original rebel at all. Nothing at all like the label says it is. I will try this one though as I like GFruit. Rather it came from hops but adding it is ok if it taste good.

    Enjoy

Just tried this yesterday. Got a media sample bottle at work.

I will say this, there is A LOT of grapefruit going on (probably too much). It's pretty evident that extra juice was added to the brew. I would have liked to see the beer a little more refined, maybe brewed with just the peels, to give the hops more room to shine.

That being said, if someone were to hand me one or five of them on a hot summer day, I wouldn't mind knocking a few back.

Gotta say the thing that confuses me about this is that it sounds like a completely awesome summer beer. That's being released in November.

The first thing that came to mind after reading his post was "they should replace Summer Ale with this IPA."
