I’d definitely buy a single pour if the opportunity presented itself, even if the cost was (presumably) higher per ounce than a full bottle.

Pretty sure I paid $40 for a 2oz pour. I looked at it as a once in a lifetime expense at the time and the experience was worth it

Yeah, I had a 1 oz pour from Jim himself about 10 years ago and have thought of pulling the trigger on a bottle for years now and may yet do that if I happen to come across one. Last time I saw one, funny enough, it was gathering dust on a shelf Bay State Liquors in Brookline on Beacon for maybe $180, maybe 7 years ago (lots of beers gather dust in that store...!).

Two stores in a chain that is based here in Battle Creek (MegaBev) come up in a search of their website (Lansing and the westside GR stores) that have Utopias. It's listed at $289.99.

I had one in hand once, until they told me the price was $310. I would have reluctantly paid $250, but $310 was over the top. Our Costco had them for about $175 two or three years ago, but I didn't hear about it in time.

Have had it on two occasions. Definitely a very interesting beer and I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it. However, the experience wasn't so wonderful that I'd want to try it again. At least not at the current price point.

...maybe this finally is a reason to join the local Sam's Club...!!

I found a 2019 vintage back in 2021. It's definitely a beer worth experiencing once, especially if you can find someone to split the purchase with. Then it just becomes a fight over who gets to keep the bottle  My buddy and I had a rough but very fun night splitting that bottle and much more

I've never heard of Sam's having Utopias, just Costco.

Walked by a bottle that was marked $249 last week. My thought was good price but out of my range. I did not see what year it was.

    Enjoy

Never had utopias, but as the years pass I appreciate it more and more as such a unique and unusual beer. In a world increasingly flooded with "innovative" beers that rely on adding stuff to the beer it's really cool to see a beer that's so singular and made with only traditional (though taken to an uncommon extreme) beer making methods

Check to see if Massachusetts is a state where membership is not required to purchase alcoholic beverages (and I think pharmacy is usually considered to be in that exception), but call ahead to see if your store has Utopias because.....

...Costco is where I bought my bottle 7-8 years ago, but I had to drive 60 miles to Grand Rapids to get it because I think not every Costco gets Utopias.

Same. I had it at Beervana in Cranston, RI in 2013. I really enjoyed it as a one time thing. It’s very tasty, but it’s not a beer in my mind. It’s like schnapps. Something I might have a sip of after a big holiday meal. And the money one would spend on utopias would get you a very, very nice bottle of whiskey.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what kept me from buying one. That sort of money was reserved Scotch and brandy.

I’ve had so many pours over the years at bars and most were at beer fests. The early Extreme Beer Fests and even local fests in the Boston area would have Sam and they would bring it. So for about $50-60 you could just line up and keep having 1 oz pours.

Tastes like Cognac for the most part. Really good, but for that price you can get a VERY nice bottle of Scotch. That’s why I never bought it.

That being said, maybe I’ll pull the trigger this year for my wedding. It’s a novelty.
