So, I was in a Sam's pub at the weekend and noticed that on a shelf behind the bar there was an empty bottle of a beer I'd never heard of: Strong Porter. I'm intrigued by this beer now!

The bottle looked quite modern, but this clearly isn't part of the range they have today. A bit of Googling suggests that it was brewed for the wedding of Charles and Diana, but does anyone know if that was the only time it was made?

Did anyone drink it and if so what was it like?

Pretty sure it was only brewed once. Think it was about 6% ABV which was pretty strong for 1981. I've never had it but I believe it would be totally past it, no hops & flat.

I wouldn't try drinking it if I came across it, since I can't imagine it would hold up, but I think the only bottles they had were empties anyway. I saw a blog post where someone did try a bottle and it was as you describe.
