Looking forward to my visit to San Antonio for a conference in a couple of weeks. Probly won't make it to any microbreweries, but hope to be eating at local places with local brews on tap.

Can any Texans suggest some current offerings I might find?

This is a mistake. You go to San Antonio, you go to Freetail. Do not miss this!

I can't help you with anything else but seriously don't miss Freetail.

Check out Big Hops Growler Station, they don't have food but lot's of TX beers.

Is there a specific reason microbreweries are out? Freetail is a brewpub so they serve food (pizza is the bomb) and have local brews (both theirs and a few guest taps) so that would fit your food + local beer desire

If you don't have a rental car you're kind of screwed with travel in SA. Our public transit sucks and every thing is really far apart.

Hey now, you can get anywhere in the city by bus. It'll just take you half the day to get there.

Which will probably cause you to fall asleep and have your beer roll out of its plastic bag onto the bus

Your best bet is HEB on potranco/1604. Go 90 west the 1604 north and it's on your right. Even better is 1604/bandera. Which is further down 1604. Maybe 5 or 6 exits.

Doesn't sound like a problem, but this is why I ride my bicycle every where.

I can't think of one single good bottle store near Lackland AFB. That's basically the craft beer waste land of SA. Best bet is HEB on Bandera/1604 and Doc's Liquor.

Freetail and Big Hops are definitely great options. The Friendly Spot, Stella Public House, and Taps y Tapas all always have local beers on tap, and the first two have large bottle selections as well. Plus the food at all of them is excellent.
