Oh great collected wisdom of Beeradvocate, embrace me with your loving arms . . . Headed to San Diego for 10th anniversary in June (1st through the 4th). Staying in Gaslamp District. I've picked up some decent ideas of where to go in the area from other threads (Neighborhood specifically). Would certainly appreciate any other recommendations, especially any that included undercover beercentric restaurants doubling as anniversary appropriate. Would greatly appreciate any advice as to what to do in the city, both beer and non-beer specific. Thanks in advance.
If you are driving or have a car the lodge at torrey pines has a good beer selection and really nice spot
30th St has most of the bars you'll want to go to with Toronado high on the list. There are so many places to go now it's best if you look into where your favorite breweries are. The 3 generic areas are the 8 corridor with Alpine out east and Pizza Port OB on the west end. The Miramar area, Ballast Point, Alesmith, Green Flash, with some newer breweries in there (Hess sucks), and then the 78 Corridor with Stone, Lost Abbey, and then newer ventures like Aztec, Latitude and a host of other newbies, with Pizza Port Carlsbad on the west end. But that's a long drive from downtown. Downtown I'd also hit Monkey Paw, or take a trip out to da island of Coronado for the brewpub there and sight seeing at the Hotel Del. Thanks for the link- planning has begun. Any other ideas as to anniversary type places with good beer selections, or is Torry Pines the way to go?
Depends on your's and the wife's opinion/taste. Stone has nice food (service has been slower than normal with some of the remodeling), very nice atmosphere, but of course is a brewery, so I don't know how well that will fly. Check out their website to see a menu and pictures. http://www.stoneworldbistro.com/ edit: If you are looking for an afternoon on the beach you can go to Ocean Beach and stop off at Pizza Port Ocean Beach. In Ocean Beach is also a nice little farm-to-table restaurant with good beer called Sessions Public
Make sure to check out Balboa Park. Very beautiful landscape/architecture and museums. Obviously non beer related.
