Which brewery would you go to if lunch with the wife was part of the equation? Am a massive hop head, will be staying at the Marriott Marquis downtown. Seems like the Stone facility is gorgeous? Also, a top bottle shop nearby the hotel would be great to know. Really appreciate the help! Let me know if you are ever in PA and will return the favor!

Monkey Paw is the best in downtown for beer and food. Mission is also doing some good hop forward stuff but, no food. To me the best beer is outside of downtown. Societe is the shit. Check them out if you can

Go to Alpine if your driving. Have a couple pints of Nelson get some ribs, wife could have a salad. The salads are good as well. I usually kill my girls after Im done with my ribs.

Wife will probably be impressed with Stone's grub (and garden), for a brewery. Alpine has better food, and better hops. Otherwise its food trucks or Pizza (Port).

Pizza Port OB. Then you can stop by Olive Tree.

Stone Bistro is probably your best bet if she isn't sold on the whole beercation idea. It has gardens and good food and actually feels like a nice restaurant while providing excellent beer choices.

Everyone always neglects to mention in these threads how far things are from each other in the San Diego area. Stone will take you 45 min each way by car, without traffic. Alpine is 30 min, in a different direction. If you're taking public transportation, then forgetaboutit.

If your wife isn't that into beer or breweries, then Stone is definitely the best one. It's easily one of the nicest brewpubs in the nation, aesthetically.

If it has to be a brewery, and you want to stay close - hit up Pizza Port OB as mentioned. It's basically just a pizza joint with really good beer, but it's pretty nice. Also, there's a fair chance you won't consider it good pizza. It's more of a tasty flatbread with gourmet toppings (Pizza California style).

Cool- thx for the tips. We will have a car. Wife is not a beer drinker, but likes to hang while I enjoy it. #blessed. Will check out Alpine on the web. Do love me some Mongo which we get back here. Wipeout, too. Stone of course everywhere. No Alpine though...

Actually, Alpine will work out perfectly. Have always wanted to try Nelson, Duet, and Pure Hoppiness. We are visiting my mom for Easter in Palm Desert and flying into and out of Palm Springs. Taking a few days in SD. We'll go over the mountain and hit Alpine on the way in. Seaworld the next day and the Midway before heading out. Love it when a plan comes together....

Good choice, If you are going there Saturday on Sunday expect to wait 30 minutes for a table. Just put your name down and go out back. The beer is the best. Had Odins Raven on nitro yesterday. It was delicious.

So, just a quick follow up.
Did stop by Alpine after our drive over the mountain. Had lunch and a few beers. Only Duet and Pure Hoppiness. Very distinctive flavors. Great and friendly service. Amazing pork BBQ! Would go back just for that!! Wish they had Nelson...
Marriott Marquis has Sculpin as a regular tap. How good is that for a boy from PA???
Stome IPA is ubiquious - it is every where. Even Seaworld has it! Not a bad gig....
Did check out the Olive tree. Nothing worth writing home about as far as beers...
In Palm Desert, check out Bristol Farms. A great Oasis in a beer desert.
Favorite beer on the trip - Alesmith IPA.
Favorite new shirt - "My beer kicks your beers ass" from Alpine. Have even been able to use the saying a few times already...
    Cheers all!
