I just recently moved to the San Diego, CA from Baltimore, MD and have been inundated with a plethora of craft beer options. There is so much out there that it is a bit overwhelming. In Maryland, I've had a lot of the prominent names of craft beer in the area (Stone, Ballast Point, and Greenflash), but I wanted to get a few locals take on what "must-taste" breweries are out there. I've already tried Port Brewing Wipe out IPA, Saint Archer IPA, and Belching Beaver PB Milk Stout. Any help would be appreciated!

Modern Times Blazing World and Mother Earth Kismet are the two best SD beers I can consistently get right now, check those out.

Side note- Just saw label approval on beerpulse.com for Kismet (and Cali Creamin') 12 oz. cans, this will be amazing!

I'd suggest using the Search function and reading through all those topics!

My advice, take your time! SD has a LOT to offer, and most of it, isn't going away, only growing. Several breweries have opened, or are opening, 2nd tasting rooms, or 2nd or 3rd locations too. So, do some research (there is plenty on this site under places as well in the pacific forum, and elsewhere online) and try a few of the closer tasting rooms in your immediate area of SD, and spread out from there. People have lived there for years, and are still tasting new beers, no rush, just enjoy it, explore.

Hey man, I lived in Maryland for 18 years. I just moved to the San Diego area about a year and a half ago. It is really overwhelming at first but I suggest that you take a road trip up north. I did that about a year ago and it was great. Start in San Diego and work our way north. I went up as far as Fort Bragg, in Mendocino County. I stopped at Lagunitas in Petaluma, Stopped at Russian River, which is within like 20 miles of Lagunitas. Then once I got to Fort Bragg I stopped at North Coast Brewery. Man, there are so may but if your planning this trip then I suggest on planning to make it to Russian River in early February so that you can try both of their Pliny's right of the tap. Send me a message if your interested in going on a beer trip, we'll bring some friends and road trip!!
