I'm coming down for Nov 13-15 and wondering what events will be taking place besides what's on the SDBW.org website. It seems like there has to be more than just what's listed. SD is huge and so is the amount of amazing breweries. Anyone got the drop on a DDG, Cable Car, or other whale tapping? Figured I hit up the Lost Abbey event downtown on Saturday and hope for the best. Any local info is appreciated! Cheers!
Most breweries just post on their personal sociel media sites since it costs money to post on the sdbw.org website. Really if you are looking for anything specific (such as LA's DDG and CC) then stay glued to their social media as they will likely state when and where they are tapping special beers or tap takeovers/dinners/brunches..etc... Otherwise, just walk to a brewery and you'll have enough fun. A specific one that I go to that is never really posted outside of their personal pages is Alesmith's Grand Prix (Wed - Fri). 12 random speedway variants broken up into 3 flights of 4. Tickets for each flight usually on BPT the week before. I don't recommend doing all 3 flights in the same day unless you are going to be there for a while since 48oz of speedway can, and does, bring some ppl down.
Last year was 2oz of each variant (officially anyway) for a total of 24 ounces. You're still going to feel it, but not nearly as bad as 48 ounces would be. But yeah, that's pretty much the essential event in my book. Other than that, keep your eye on brewery and bar social media. Good beers have gotten spread out among both more bars and more events over the years that even if you avoid big events, you'll still have tons of choices for great beer.
Yeah, officially. I had late on-call so I got stuck running into the tasting room around 7:45pm each night. I figured I could get 2 flights a night but wouldn't really be able to savor..glad I didn't. I spent a good 20 or so minutes trying not to finish the double hammerhead one.
