Will be in San Diego in Feb, unfortunately for only one day (a Sunday). Flying in from Buffalo, NY Saturday night and leaving Monday morning for Palm Springs. Will be staying about 6 blocks from Pariah Brewing (North Park neighborhood??) . Will have our own car. Looking to probably stay within an hour of our AirBB to try to hit as many breweries as we can on a Sunday. Would really appreciate your thoughts on where to go. Any info. you could share would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Mike Kramer P.S. Not a big IPA fan, but anything else is good. No kids with us. Looking to probably avoid breweries that are distributed out east ( Ballast Point, Stone). Would like to hit up what you consider the best local breweries that don't make it out our way. Appreciate any feedback...
If you’re near Pariah on El Cajon Blvd, you’re in good shape. Plenty of breweries which meet your description line 30th. There’s plenty more, but along that corridor would recommend: Fall Brewing Tiger!Tiger! (Has a lot of beer, and “automatic brewing” in house) Eppig Brewing Belching Beaver There’s also the well known Hamilton’s on the southern end of that corridor. You could easily walk this stretch or use Lyft. Would avoid the car, enjoy more beer!
Around the area you would be staying: Eppig / North Park Beer Co / Rip Current / Modern Times satellite location East from you ~25min Burning Beard North from you ~15min Societe Alesmith (yes, wide distro around the states, but their barrel room is wonderful) Mikkeller San Diego West/South from you ~10min Modern Times (main facility) Downtown from you ~10-15min Resident (kinda IPA heavy) There are plenty of other spots, these are my personal favorites. I excluded North County area, but if you venture that far then I would suggest Abnormal / Lost Abbey / Wild Barrel / Burgeon (heavy on IPAs) And pretty much in any direction you face there is a PizzaPort, but they are heavier on the IPAs.
Definitely Pariah on El Cajon has super flavorful brews, a must visit. Across the street is Tiger Tiger for some great food and a beer list from multiple great breweries.
Definitely should still stop at the Stone location in Escondido. Best brewery u will go to on the West Coast, as far as beauty and layout. Also a wide assortment of outside beers too.
