I'll be going to San Diego next weekend with the family and would like to know which brewery would be appropriate to bring them to for dinner. It would help if the food is good too.

Best food at the brewery in SD - Stone, either Escondido or Liberty Station location. The latter is huuuuge.

The two Stone locations mentioned above are definitely appropriate for taking the family. The Escondido location is gorgeous, and the Liberty Station location, as mentioned, is gigantic, but interesting. If you have little kids, they might enjoy the fact that Liberty Station is very close to the airport and in the path of planes taking off....albeit, it makes conversations difficult for a few seconds at a time. In fact, if you take a short walk towards the inlet (next to the fish processing facility) you can watch the planes take off right over your head. I guess what I'm saying is you don't have to be a little kid to think it's cool.

Be warned, while the food at Stone is good, it's way overpriced.

Does it have to be a brewery? Tiger Tiger has a good SD-based selection and excellent food. And very family-friendly.

I'll throw in a mention for any Pizza Port. While the food isn't world class the beer is and they are extremely family friendly places. Blind Lady Ale House/Tiger Tiger would also fit the bill.

Pizza Port tuesday nights...silently dubbed "Divorced Dad Nights" since I guess all tuesday nights mothers work and dads don't want to cook.

It is amazing how many fathers and children exist without a single wife/mother present. Root beer is good too assuming it isn't tapped out plus some video games in the back for the kids.

I tend to go and just bring a couple card games and sit there for a few hours drinking beers just hoping some random stranger will grab 3 cards off the top of my Fluxx deck and start playing without first asking "what game is this?" Ahhh...hopes and dreams...

So there you go BA san diegans..learn how to play Fluxx then randomly find some whiteboy that looks like a hobo drinking beer (w/ a girl that appears to be incredibly out of his league) playing, sit down, grab 3 cards, play, and I will prolly buy us a couple rounds

I hear ballast points food is awesome and way more affordable than stones...

Do not go to Stone. Food is not good. I second Ballast Point and Pizza Port. I suppose Tiger Tiger and Blind Lady Ale House, but even though they're "kid-friendly," they're also kind of not. Pizza Port is far and away your best bet, as the beer is incredible, and the kids love it.

i hear that both of those breweries are awesome and offer very different experiences! both stone locations have places for children to run around, but the food is more upscale and not what most people expect at a brewery.

the ballast point little italy location has great food with a lot of specials, and a really nice view of the bay!

Love that place, but I don't think it's too kid-friendly, which is nice.

Pizza port like everyone says. I actually like their pizza and wings a lot.

Go to Slaters 50/50. Huge list and most people like the food. Then walk over to Stone just for dessert and scenery while you go for a pint or two.

I like the food at Karl Strauss, has the cool koi pond and that garden trail. Beers are okay but I don't remember if they ever do guest taps.

Go to Stone if you like pretentious, overpriced bullshit food. Honestly, go to Pizza Port, Blind Lady Ale House, Tiger! Tiger!, Waypoint Public, etc.

They pretty much went out of their way to kiss the ass of my seven year old daughter when we were there last year.

Any of the Pizza Ports can be the best brewery you've ever been to masquerading as a family pizza parlor. Seriously. Food is nothing complex, but the pizzas are filling, salads are large and there are video games to keep the kids happy while you sample beers. BLAH, Tiger Tiger and Waypoint are more gastropub type vibe, but still family friendly. Waypoint even has sort of a play area off to one side.
