Hi Folks, Few of us are heading down to San Diego again for the Pizza Port Strong Ales fest this weekend from the bay area. Been for the previous 3 or 4 years, but this time we have opted to not stay in Carlsbad, so I am looking for some advice. We have a place in Mission Beach so we are planning on taking the Coaster commuter train to and from the event. Questions I do have: 1) Any other beer events happening around town? 2) Suggestions for eating/drinking around Mission Beach or that general area? We will have a car. In particular, breakfast burrito suggestions? Been to Juanita's every year and loved it... but figure there may be other suggestions. 3) In the past, we've visited Alpine (several times), and Alesmith. I know there are a handful of breweries in SD and many world class. Which in particular are worth a visit and will have special things on tap? Thanks in advance and CANNOT WAIT for this weekend!!! Cheers, Adam
1. Dunno. Always something going on here. 2. Dunno about eats, but there is a new place called "Draft" in MB that has a hell of a tap list. You are not a far walk from Cal Kabob / Amplified Ale. 3. Societe. Council. Rip Current and Toolbox if you are in North County. Maybe Modern Times?
Going to add new Ballast Point location since it is near Alesmith so you already know the area. They have I think 70+ taps of just their stuff inside. My favorite is the Victory at Sea w/ Mole spices. Otherwise everything else heavyspeedway mentioned, unless you spend more time in north county then you can go around the block (well a couple blocks) from Toolbox to Belching Beaver. They won't have anything super special on tap but their lineup is pretty solid anyways.
What everyone else said, plus if you are in PB the Barrel Republic had some good beers on tap while I was there last and I'd recommend going to Toronado some time, great beer but the food is just ok
2. Taco Surf in PB on Mission has a pretty bomb breakfast burrito. Oscar's in North PB on Turquoise(ish) has some of the best fish tacos around. The Mission on Mission Blvd also has a quality breakfast burrito, as well as a killer pancake selection.
Folks, Thank you for your suggestions. Feel free to keep 'em coming but those of you who have chimed in, THANK YOU!
If you are at PP Cbad, Bagby Beer Co is 3 miles up on PCH and is awesome. It is my local spot and I've already been there 10 times since they opened 2 months ago.
