Just goto The Neighborhood, Half Door, and Resident. That should cover your food and beer cravings.

Edit: Resident sits inside The Local, in case it doesn't pop up on your map

East Village now has restaurants from Duck Foot and Amplified.

Didn't want to start another San Diego trip thread, so hope OP doesn't mind me adding my questions ... will be in SD Sunday 3/10 for a 1/2 day, staying in Gaslamp area w/out a car. With limited time, thinking it's best to take an Uber up to North Park area. Hit up Modern Times, Fall Brewing, Rip Current, and Toronado. A few questions:

1 - I probably won't be able to handle all four breweries in an afternoon haha. If I have to skip one ... what would you skip? I'm mostly into NEIPA / WCIPA / RIS.

2 - Is BLAH pretty much the default for dinner after hitting up the breweries in North Park?

3 - I may have time in the evenings to check out other breweries. Thinking best bet is Uber it to Ocean Beach to do Pizza Port and Belching Beaver. Probably not worth going to the Modern Times in Midway area if I've already checked it out in North Park. Agree?

4 - Was not planning on heading out of the city to Societe, Ale Smith, etc. Is this a mistake? I basically would have to concede to skipping North Park breweries ...

I'm seeing that you like RIS's and yet you're skipping Alesmith. And...I question your decisions.

That being said, I'd assume that skipping out on one of the MTs would work okay. I'd follow the breweries mentioned on social media just to see what's on tap at each and decide from there.

Swap Fall with North Park Beer Co. (though I do dig Fall's indie-punk vibe, the beer is better at NP).

    Thanks guys for the input!

I know, I know. One reason is I can get Alesmith easily here in Philly. Other reason is I don't like to drink a RIS when the temp is >32F ... just seems wrong. Maybe my RIS love card should be temporarily revoked haha.

Go for the "speakeasy" where you can try catalogued beers. I'd still go and I don't buy Alesmith anything apart from maybe a rogue bottle of regular Speedway Stout every couple years.

Yea the alesmith you get easily isn't why you'd be visiting, it'd be to go inside the speakeasy. Especially if you go on an off day, they'll let you sit in there for as long as you like.

Ah ... this escaped me. I didn't realize Anvil and Stave was actually a separate Alesmith tasting/catalog option. This is a tough call. It take up my whole afternoon to get up there, but North Park will be easier to get to in the PM during the week ... hmmm. Their to go bottle options make me want to bring some checked luggage just in case ....

I can't recall a time where I didn't spend a few hours inside of there. Grab a pour and chat (usually) with Jay. Then he decides to start trying to make a blend and I end up being the taste tester. And then the uber gets called and I collect my car the following morning.

Edit: And on top of that, they have started having member-only pours. So if you can find a member while you are there then you can get some more good stuff.

I'll be in town next week, just curious if anyone has done the tour at Alesmith and what they thought of it.

Also, do they still do the password for the Anvil and Stave? I haven't seen anything on social media recently.

Tour is cool, but not totally necessary unless you're a big fan of theirs. ice to hear about the continued expansion/growth as well as the upcoming cheese mongering.

Re: Anvil & Stave, a password was posted on Instagram today, so they're still using that system:

The password is always in a little frame right at the register of the small store, where you need to get the ticket anyways.

They use it when they know it will be busy, like tonight with the Sublime 40oz bottle release.

100% skip Fall. Do North Park Beer Co, Rip Current, and Toronado in North Park.

Great spot, make sure to get the frites.

The Modern Times in Midway is far more worthwhile than the one in North Park. If you're not sure you can make it to Midway, stop in at North Park, but Midway has a far bigger taplist and a far bigger list of options to go. Modern Times -> Pizza Port OB makes for an excellent evening.

Does Modern Times have to go options that aren't listed on their site? I was there a couple years ago and I feel like they had a couple of BA stouts available to go, wondering if that may be a possibility again.

Yes, quite a few, both BA stouts and BA sours.

Hmmm... These generally just at the Lomaland location? That's where we went last time, but were planning on checking out the North Park and Encinitas locations this time. Encinitas's taplist looks great.

Both Encinitas and North Park have far less cold storage space than Lomaland, so their selection of to-go choices will inevitably be smaller. Both will have at least some BA choices (stout and/or sour), but fewer than Lomaland.
