The obvious question is where are you staying? SD county is pretty big, especially if you're tipping craft beers. There are legitimately good places to hit across the whole shebang, but knowing your home base will help create the best itinerary.

If you are looking for sitdown Mexican with margaritas and whatnot most places in Old Town are good. my favorite is Casa Guadalajara.

carnitas plate for two down at the old town mexican cafe is a good choice as well for the area. a little further away is the luche libre/regal beagle combo. get some tj hot dogs from luche, and then some pints from the beagle...

but my tie for favorite burrito in san diego is the no-no with chicken from el portal in mission valley or the breakfast burrito from el azteca in la mesa.

I'd recommend not eating in Old Town. Tourist traps. Food mediocre. If you are going to eat in/near old town there is a pretty awesome taco shop called Dos Brasas. The adobada burrito will kill ya!

I'm sure you have plenty of options and plans now, but if you get the chance, I recommend checking out Intergalactic Brewing in the Miramar area. They're very new, but very promising. I've really liked every beer I've tried from there so far. It's tucked in the back of a business park, and kinda hard to find, but definitely worth the search. And if you're into sci-fi at all, you'll like it that much more

Don't recommend any small breweries! They're just wastes of time! I've already been admonished for suggesting one.

Seriously, though, thanks for mentioning them. I'm gonna check them out.

    Cheers!

Great thread, guys. Popped in here because I'm heading to SD with the family over Veterans Day weekend, which I believe is the tail end of SD beer week. Won't be able to hit any of that, unfortunately. I was hoping to see some Good beer suggestions in here, but I'm more impressed with the restaurant suggestions. That's a lot to take in. I'm sure it's all great. Now I just need to convince the wife to go somewhere with great food and tap list.

I always tell everyone the same thing. Also if it looks like you might get sick and has yellow or red booths it's probably pretty decent.

I love their breakfast burritos. Always go there for a breakfast burrito. Bring it over to Bluefoot on Saturday mornings for Premier League. One burrito and 3-4 pints later. I am done for the day.

Go to Churchill's and Urge Gastropub.

    For Mexican,
    Lolita's
    Tacos El Gordo
El Zarape (then you can go to Small Bar next door)
Rudy's in Solana Beach (Best Carne Asada ever)
Vallarta's in Clairemont is also absurd. Best at 2AM. Quesaburrito

I 2nd Lucha Libre, one-of-a-kind San Diego Mexican joint in Mission Hills, as featured on Man vs. Food.

Also on the 3rd Friday of the month don't miss Fifty Seven Degrees just down the street, which will have several local food trucks. Normally a wine bar, it now also has the SD Brew Project with 31 local beers on tap.
