Heading out to San Diego with some friends next week and want some local info on some of the new breweries that have been popping up. What are the "can't miss" out there right now? I currently have Modern Times, Toolbox, Societe, and Booze Brothers on the list of places to stop (along with the old standby: Lost Abbey, Pizza Port, Stone, Green Flash, Ballast Point.)

What are some others that are doing great things?
    Thanks

Horses for courses and all that, but I flew into SD last week and had a few hours to spare before heading up to LA. Went to Modern Times and Societe. Big fan of MT. Societe didn't really do it for me as much though. Of course this was based on one visit - I'm sure tons of SD'ers will disagree with me.

    Council Brewing
    Culture Brewing
    Hess Brewing
    Port Brewing
    BNS
    Manzinita

And Barrel Republic (self serve beer stations)

And if you want to go against the grain, Alpine. These are a few places I frequent also.

If you also want to go gastropubs, here are a few:

    Common Theory
    Toronado
    Blind Lady Ale House
    Tiger! Tiger!
Urbn Pizza (the mashed potato pizza is to die for)
    BottleCraft on Little Italy
    Draft Republic in La Jolla
    Station Tavern
    O'Briens

Modern Times is easily becoming one of my favorite Breweries! They nail every style, even their Saison was exceptional....and I am a Critic when it comes to American Brewers attempting Belgian Ales.

Stay the course and definitely hit up Modern Times (North Park or Original Location).

Mike Hess in North Park is a beautiful spot with world class beer that flies under the radar a bit I feel. For lunch after hit Carnitas snack shack.

Pizza Port OB has killer food for cheap, killer beer, and is a 2 minute walk from the beach. Also OB noodle house is right down the street and they always have a killer line up with one or two weird/high ABV beers.

Coronado Brewing has a fantastic location on the island (which isn't really an island) plus some great beers.

None beer related. Take a hike through Torrey Pines. It's beautiful, easy, and glossed over by most people who visit.

I just loved the fact that there were so many (delicious) beers on the lower end of the ABV scale. We took a bottle of the Black House with Cacao & Coconut to go. Fast forward a couple of days and my wife and I were in a yurt in Big Sur. I had my Parabola, and she had the Black House. One taste of that though, and the Parabola was forgotten - I gave her the puppy dogs - "can we share?"

Don't bother with Booze Brothers. The place is cool, but the beer is not worth making the trip. Don't let the overall beer rating on this site throw you off. Looks like someone went on and rated all of their beer 5s to completely skew the overall numbers.

I was thinking the guy who had culture brewing and Manzanita was a little off. Though I go to 5 or 6 concerts a year at Belly Up and hanging at Culture brewing for an hour or two before is great.
