I'll be at the San Francisco airport and have will have about 3 hours to kill on Thursday evening Any suggestions on a quick trip on the BART into SF for a good brew and a bite to eat?

I would say go to the mission district (16th & Mission bart station) and hit up monks kettle on 16th near Valencia St. Might be cutting close if you only have 3 hrs though

    http://beerbybart.com/ is a good resource.

Monk's Kettle, Rosamunde, and Mikkeller would be my top 3 recommendations. It's 23 minutes on BART from SFO to 24th & Mission (Rosamunde) and 29 to Powell (Mikkeller). BART's frequency is 15-20 minutes (15 before 7pm, 20 after) - so I agree that 3 hours could be cutting it close but it can be doable if security lines are short.

If you don't want to risk missing your flight there's the Anchor pub in Terminal 3

I would BART to the Powell St. station then choose between Mikkeller Bar, City Beer Store, or Cellar Maker. Mikkeller is the shortest walk and would be my first rec of the three if you can only make one.

Cellarmaker (2 blocks) and City Beer Store (3 blocks) are much closer to Civic Center BART than Powell BART.

Mikkeller at Powell given the short amount of time you have.

True, but we're only talking about a few blocks and, like I said, Mikkeller would be my first rec.

Thanks for the tips. I'm from Boston and want to make sure I have the fare cost correct. I used the fare calculator link on the BART site and it came back with $17.30 for a round trip SFO to Civic Center....Damn that's pricey.

The airport is a lot farther from downtown than it looks on a map.

San Francisco is pricey in general. If you're scared by this BART cost, Mikkeller bar's beer prices will scare you even more.

    Welcome!

It's partially because there's an extra fee for the airport section of BART. Notice that if you go from the next station up (San Bruno), that trip only costs $8.30.

BART is pretty damn pricey, but a cab could run you twice that if not more for the round trip depending on traffic. Might be worth cabbing, though, since it would be faster...again, depending on traffic. I just reread the OP and FYI City Beer has food, but it's not like dinner food. Just "snacks" and CellarMaker does not have food, but they occasionally have a food truck out front. Monk's Kettle in the Mission has been mentioned does have good food and taps IMO, but is also quite pricey (2 beers, half an app and a burger cost me $50 there once 0_o) and you can expect there to be a wait on a Thursday evening, though you might be able to snag a bar seat.

There's a good burger spot called Roam walking distance from the Fillmore, but I don't recall if they had beer. If they did, it was nothing special. Really not much in the way of good beer in that area that I'm aware of. Fat Angel is supposed to have some good taps and food, but I haven't been yet.

Fat Angel is a good suggestion. It is a block or two from the Fillmore and the beer selection on tap is always good but not large. Bottle list is decent as well. They have sliders and flatbread pizzas and other stuff to eat as well. If you are willing to do two stops, then Monk's Kettle is good, Magnolia on Haight has great burgers and it is strong beer month so the beers are good, Toronado is close to various places with food including Greenburger's across the street--take it to go and eat at Toronado, or Zeitgiest, or Mikkeller Bar, or Abbot's Cellar, or . . .
