Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums, and a friend of mine recommended that I come over here to get some help with a San Fran trip that I have coming up. Basically looking for recommendations of places to visit for some good beer. Thanks for your help.
Do a search in this forum -- or just page through -- and you will find many prior threads with lots of information.
I think you'll get a lot more feedback if you come with some specific questions like, "I'm staying in neighborhood A. What's a good place to go within walking distance?" "Tell me where to go in SAN FRAN?" is going to get you directions for scoring Crack.
You can find an aggregated list of spots if you click on the Places tab and then click on SF. And as mentioned, then come back with specific questions in this forum.
Thanks for the info, and if it helps I'll be staying at the Hilton downtown off O'Farrell street. Honestly there isn't anymore specific information since I'm going to be there for a week I have the opportunity to move around and try out various locations.
If you're at the Hilton, sneak into Tower 1 and go to the 44/45th floor and check out the view, it is incredible! You can hit up Cellarmaker and Shitty Beer Store next to each other. Cellarmaker is on Howard down by 7th street. Worth a shot for bottles to look at Healthy Spirits as well.. Ales Unlimited has lost favor with me after repeated stories of them not selling Pliny to people and saying they have to buy other RRB bottles before they buy pliny.. 21st Amendment is sweet too. Take BART across the bay to Oakland and hit up Beer Revolution in Jack London.
Yea not to bash on a store but I asked once about Velvet Merkin at Ales Unlimited when it first came out and was told they didn't have any. I asked what about the bottle right behind you on the shelf? "Uh that's not Velvet Merkin and its being held for someone..." yea ok...I'm not stupid, so goodbye. Hit up Healthy Spirits Castro, also Whole Foods Noe Valley for exception beer selections. And do not forgo a trip to Cellarmaker, that's a must.
Healthy Spirits actually does hold bottles for people all the time and all of the FW boxes look the same so unless you could read it then you don't know what if was.
Healthy Spirits is open and honest about their bottle holding policies because they do it for the club members. And while I could not read the lettering it was a black labeled FW box. Im guessing Ales Unlimited doesn't have Parabola sitting around 6 months after release. So yea Im pretty sure it was VM considering it was released to the bay area within that 2 week period.
